It found our nowtv (roku based) instantly via the network. It pulled all the channels (installed apps) perfectly. I thought wow this thing is brilliant, first time something has worked out the box with no mucking about!! Boy was I wrong! I tested the functions on the nowtv and it didn't do a thing. Apparently logitech (and there tech support admitted this) doesn't support the nowtv via WiFi, it has to be added manually so it works via IR - OK I can live with this, just means the channels don't work (I've created custom commands with multiple key presses to scroll down across down OK etc to open iPlayer etc) and now I occasionally get multiple key presses too!
I then thought let's add my htpc. It says on the logitech website that it can be added either as an IR device on all remotes and as a Bluetooth device if you have a hub based remote. Nope.. you can only add a pc via Bluetooth. I've had nothing but issues with it this way. It attempts to pair, windows tries to locate a driver but can't, the hub then says it failed to pair, but windows thinks it did. This repeated about 4 times before I contacted support. After numerous emails back and forth they finally admitted that it does this but it should work. Well I can tell you that it doesn't. Every time you go back into the activity it states it's not paired and you have to go through it all again, for it to fail yet again.
The only way I could get this to work is to add a HP media center IR USB as a device and manually add my pc that way. Just a good job the htpc software I use allows key mapping! If you look on the logitech support forums I am not the only one having this issue.
The only other issue I had is that the hub itself has an IR transmitter and when using the IR blasters (pointed at the projector) I managed to get interference and it basically stopped everything responding but you can go into setup on the remote and turn off the blaster for everything but the projector.
It's also worth nothing that there are settings on the remote that are not accessible via the hub setup app on the mobile device etc.
There are more features I've not tried yet such as adding home control devices etc.
Overall it's a good remote but for what it cost I was quite surprised by the issues I had and the lack of support from logitech.
Anyway, this took a bit of setting up but after persevering it was worth it. I have the following:
- Panasonic TV
- Panasonic Sound Box
- NOW TV
- Fire stick
- Hue lights
- HDMI switch
The only thing that I don't really use through it is the Hue lights as it's more of a faff than using the dedicated Hue App on the iPhone. Apart fro that all controls are excellent. If there's an issue i.e. something doesn't switch on or turn over then there's a Help button which attempts to fix the problem automatically and 8 times out of 10 that works.
I used to have 6 remotes (I think it was 6) but now everything's controlled with this 1 remote. The other are banished to the drawer just in case there's ever an issue with the Harmony remote.
The first thing I noticed is that this is a great quality product. It was very easy to set up with the software taking me through the stages in a very logical manner. The hub scanned my network to find compatible devices and set those up automatically. It was very easy to add additional items - such as my home cinema system - and editing the activities to add them was easy. The system supports both IR and Bluetooth so adding my PlayStation 3 was easy.
I really like the feel and layout of the remote. It is very logical and will be easy for my family to get used to. There is a cradle for the remote which means it is always fully charged.
1. The remote refuses to sit flat when you put it down, it has an ergonomic underside which is great when you hold it but a real pain when you put it down as it has a habit of rolling off!
2. The touch screen can be oversensitive, meaning sometime even if you pass over it things happen!
3. If the TV etc are already on but the wife has used the original remote control there isn't a way of getting to the FAVOURITES without the whole TV etc. switching off and then you have to go to each device and switch it on! Reason for this is 'FAVOURITES' has some power on commands that cannot be removed, a bit of a pain!
4. Some of the preset sequences are not editable, what I mean is if you want to remove 'Power On' or 'Power off' commands this doesn't seem to be an option.
5. If you have your hub installed you have to edit the remote in range of the hub, so if your PC is in another room you have to unplug the hub and take it with you!
Other than that, for the money seems to do everything I wanted it to do and a third of the price of the Marantz!
