I purchased this as an upgrade to a Logitech C920, as I video call a lot while gaming and my C920 was struggling to cope in poor-lighting situations. After doing some research, I found that the Logitech BRIO performs amazingly well in low-lighting scenarios, so I went for it.
Fire impressions when opening the box were very pleased. It looks sleek and stylish, it has a nice bit of weight to it which makes it feel well made and sturdy. The box contains a built in mount for mounting the camera on top of your monitors, which can be snapped off revealing a thread for mounting the webcam onto a tripod should you require it. There is also a privacy attachment that can be clipped on to the top of the camera allowing you to cover the lens when not in use if you have privacy concerns.
My problems with the webcam start when it comes to the software. When using the webcam "plug and play" it performs WORSE than the C920, with poor frame rate/exposure, visible flickering and struggles to auto-focus as it should. For a webcam of this price range I would expect it to perform out of the box at LEAST as good as it's predecessor.
After installing the Logitech Capture software, you are able to tweak a wide variety of settings, from frame rate, angle of view, HDR, overlays etc, which make the quality of the picture MUCH better, but forces you to have the Logitech Capture software open at all times, and to select "Logitech Capture" as your active webcam in applications to get these benefits. Selecting the "Logitech Brio 4K" as your active webcam only gives you the poor quality plug and play output. Disappointing.
Further issues arise when trying to update the webcams firmware. After houts of searching the internet and official Logitech website, I found the firmware update software, and it refuses to detect my camera, meaning no firmware update has ever been installed on the webcam since I purchased it. From various review videos online, many of the "plug and play" issues with this webcam are resolved with the later firmware updates, however as I am unable to receive them, I cannot comment.
Reaching out to Logitech regarding this received no help, so customer support is lacking, which is something to bear in mind should any other buyers have problems with their webcam.
Overall, the webcam is an improvement over the C920, as long as your using it with the Logitech Capture software. Otherwise your better off sticking with the C920 if all you want is a simple, high-quality "plug and play" webcam. The lack of information and support from Logitech lets this camera down and the failure to allow settings from Logitech Capture to be saved "On board" the webcam to be used as default is a major let down.
