Great until the left button starts turning single clicks into double clicks (for me about 2 years, for many others event less). There are instructions available to "re-tension" the spring underneath the button but we shouldn't have to do that for a relatively new product. The issue has been known for ages so why Logitech is not sorting it out is a mystery. Avoid this mouse.

I have to mirror other people's reviews; this is a good improvement over the M570 (so far! - only a week of around 10 hours a day use) minus the price.

Logitech's earlier wired thumb-ball lasted me over 4 years until I stupidly gave it away and purchased an M570 thinking it an upgrade. 6 x M570's in ~6 years, a 100% failure rate, and they all failed for the same reason; button problems! All 6 suffered double left-clicking issues from 6-18 months after purchase which was disappointing, and a couple also suffered from the "back"/"forward" buttons seizing too.

If the switches last more than a few years, at least, then I'd recommend the MX Ergo over the M570 hands down. I like the change of angle, the buttons feel much nicer and are customisable, and there's also more buttons - with many possible functions!

So far things are ok. The first small issue I'm having at the moment is, I assume, to do with the power savings/low energy modes. Often I'll be through reading a page and I'll be trying to progress the page with the scroll wheel and nothing happens; it seems the "wake-up" interrupt/handler favours the left/right click buttons or a movement of the ball - not the scroll wheel. A little annoying.

The second little issue is the scroll wheel decides one up/down scroll action is equal to 100's in certain software when that program isn't currently in focus. For example, I'm reading pages in the web browser, and without clicking on VLC Media player to bring it into focus, I'll try and adjust the volume by 5% (supposedly one scroll wheel advancement) and it'll either shoot up to 200% volume (from any previous volume) or, the opposite, it'll shoot all the way to 0% volume. Very annoying if the comfortable listening volume was 40% and it shoots up to 200%! So, each time I need to adjust anything, I need to click the application to bring it into focus before adjusting any scroll-wheel positions.

Both those issues should be curable with a software update.

The left mouse button has started double clicking when single clicking like the M570's did...........

So, roughly £100 ÷ 34 months = £3 per month ownership cost.

Worked flawlessly (I think the second "Edit:" issue above was updated fairly quickly, but, it still sleeps and takes a second or so to wake up - sacrifice 50% battery life for instant on please 👍 ) and still recommend it. If the price is good for you, definitely go for it. It's lasted long daily use since it was bought for office and gaming, the battery still lasts forever, I sometimes think it's magic until the illusion is broken with the red-light-of-recharging after months.

I've used the old Logitech M570 trackball for years and although I was not happy with its long term operating life, I could find no superior alternative until they came up with the MX Ergo. There was one review which said the ball action was jerky from the still position and when I started using the MX I thought that seemed to be true, but ongoing use seems to have smoothed out whatever was causing the stutter and now it has a silky smooth action. The hinge base seems very solidly built with a magnetic attachment but honestly once it is in the 20° position there seems no need to ever put it back flat again. If I had known that this angle made the unit so much more comfortable to use, I'd have rigged the old M570s to have some sort of wedge base under them! I rarely use any of the minor buttons but the scroll wheel and the main buttons seem robust although only time will tell as they were the main cause of failure on the older model. Overall I am very enthusiastic about the unit in all respects apart from the price. Even though I bought the device for £84.38 instead of the original £99.99, I still feel that it is overpriced and expect that once the "must have" brigade have bought their units, Logitech will reduce the price to widen the market. You either like trackballs or you don't but I couldn't use anything else, so when my M570 failed, I felt I had little option and don't regret buying the Mx Ergo.

Since buying the MX Ergo I somehow managed to scratch the thumb ball which had started to become sticky and caused the action to be stuttering. I found a replacement red after market ball from Perixx, Peripro #303, here on Amazon and for under £10 the Ergo is back to being silky smooth. I think it actually is smoother than when new with its original ball. If you are considering buying an Ergo, buy a spare one of these balls as well to ensure that you get smooth action and long life from the device.

Since I originally bought the device I've discovered that the marble needs regular polishing and I use a cloth that has had silicone lubricant impregnated into it. I clean both the ball the the recess and this keeps it smooth for about 4 or 5 days when it needs cleaning again. I think its body fat from the thumb which is deposited on the ball and ends up on the three mounting points where it increases friction and makes the ball more difficult to move. Cleaned it is superb but it needs routine maintenance to keep it that way.
