Because this is my first joystick; I can't compare it with other models; but I'm very happy with it. I use it only for X Plane 9 and for this it is very good. I had looked at purchasing a yoke, but they are very expensive and I didn't really want to spend much more than £30; so this came within my price range. I bought it after searching on Google for, specifically, recommended joystick to use with X Plane 9 and this one was mentioned a few times as a good choice.

I think this will be an excellent option if you plan to use it with flight sims; I don't know how it would be with other games as I've not used it for anything else.

So far I haven't experienced any issues with it; I just plug it into my Mac and it works perfectly every time, and worked straight out of the box. If you use a PC, there is an installation disc provided.

Admittedly I had to program the buttons in X Plane, but this isn't to the detriment of the joystick at all; that's just how X Plane works with joysticks. Having said that; calibration was easy enough.

One of the good things about this model is that the base is quite heavy and so it stays in place on the desk when in use. It also feels quite well made. Again, I don't know how this compares to other models; but the overall build quality seems to be reasonable enough.

The throttle lever is a little disappointing. Very small and doesn't really give any resistance when you ease it to full power; but then I guess for this price you're only going to get the basics. It's also the only part of the joystick that feels cheap as it's made from a sort of lightweight glossy plastic. There is also no force feedback or vibration; again due to the fact that this is an entry-level model.

This is the first joystick I buy in many years, I'm planning on getting a private pilot license and I want to do some warm up first with flight simulators.

Now I don't have the time, space and money to spend in one of those classy joke+throttle+pedals combos which, great as they seem to be, are way out of the league of all but the most serious flight simmers out there, so I decided to look for an affordable alternative. Being a long time satisfied costumer of Logitech mice, and given the positive reviews of this one, I decided to give it a go.

I've been using it for several days now and I can say I made the right decision, this little one is beutiful, confortable, precise, and it truly delivers the goods. Unbeatable value for money IMHO. Following is a item by item review:

1) Joystick handle:
PROS: The guys at Logitech really nailed this one, it's extremely confortable and fits your (right) hand like a glove, it provides just the right amount of resistance and it's very precise.

The handle also twists around its vertical axis about 30 degrees clock and counter-clock wise to give you rudder control, again, it gives just the right amount of resistance and it's very precise.

6 out of the 12 programmable buttons of this joystick are disributed throughout the handle: A trigger button, a thumb button and another four on top of the handle, each one of them is just in the right place and has a nice feeling to it when pressed. Also in top of the handle you'll find a 8 direction rocker (commonly use to control the camera while flying).

Easy to program, boyfriend uses it for WoWp and is pleased with the increased manoeuvrability. Seems to be holding up well, still sturdy and not rickety.

Easy setup, fun and easy to use in games, lots of buttons and great software is included which helps you set up what different buttons do on the joystick!

Great joystick, all controls work well + rudder control is excellent. Decent weight, not had a problem with it moving around under use, nor is it too heavy.

Only minor improvement they could make would be a slightly bigger throttle control, but it doesn't hinder its use and is not enough to bring down the score. 5*.

Been using one of these for ages now, it does everything that it should! Its very comfortable to use, reliable (like I said had mine for ages) and cost very little compared to other sticks on the market. I use mine For playing Il2 on line and find it very easy to get on with! 12 buttons, twist rudder and throttle controls are all still working and Its been hammered! Probably the best value for money your going to get at the minute within its price range!

As an entry level/budget joystick, I really can't complain about the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro.

On windows 7 it's a nice and easy plug and play USB device with no need for extra downloads or software installs, and runs fine out of the box. An additional software cd is provided, which add's a Logitech gaming center icon to your system tray, although I've not noticed any additional features from having installed it.

The stick is nicely centered and has enough play for you to rest your hand on it without starting to sway or spin in your flight sim of choice, as can happen with cheaper joysticks, without detracting from precision of movement, once you've gotten used to it.

As with other reviewers, I've found the throttle control isn't in the best position where it is. It's useable, but its a bit awkward if, like me, you like to keep the joystick well to the right hand side of your desk.

I have found, however, that the stick likes to spam input even when not in use, and I have to disconnect it when playing anything that isn't a flight sim, as otherwise it'll keep pumping out input to my pc and leave my screen spinning/flipping uncontrollably.

The springs on this joystick are set pretty hard, which is fine for someone like me who can be a bit heavy handed, but might prove uncomfortable for someone who is more light handed.
