Product description

Product Description

Give yourself the advantage you need to win. Giving you an arsenal of advanced gaming technology, the Logitech G19 gaming keyboard is the first Logitech keyboard to feature a colour GamePanel LCD. The tiltable, 320-by-240-pixel display provides valuable in-game information for over sixty games, including World of Warcraft (requires installation of included Logitech GamePanel software).

In addition to in-game information, the screen can show VOIP communication data, clock, CPU load, or other non-gaming specific items such as pictures or videos. And you can easily switch among types of information – without ever leaving your game.

If you take your gameplay seriously, you want the Logitech G19 on your side. Play with the best.

Logitech G19 Gaming Keyboard
Anatomy of a game-winning keyboard

1. Colour GamePanel LCD
A tiltable, colour GamePanel LCD displays game stats, system information, VOIP communication data, video playback, image slideshows, and many other items, without leaving the game.

2. User-Selectable Character Backlighting Colour
Lets you personalize the keyboard to complement the rest of your computer and gaming equipment.

3. Twelve Fully Programmable G-keys with Three Macros Per Key
Provide space to program 36 time-saving commands per game (single keypresses or complex macros). The MR key allows you to record new macros on-the-fly.

4. Two High-Speed, Powered USB 2.0 Ports
You can connect and power devices – such as your G9x Laser Mouse or G35 Headset – with the two high-speed USB 2.0 ports. You also have the ability to transfer data to and from peripherals – like MP3 players and flash drives – while providing power to charge battery-powered devices.

5. Game Mode Switch
A game/desktop mode switch lets you disable the Windows /Context Menu keys so you don’t get accidentally kicked out of your game.

6. Multi-Key Input
Performing multiple actions simultaneously is also made easier with the keyboard’s multi-key input-functionality, which allows you to engage up to five keys at the same time.

I am running the Logitech G19 keyboard with Windows 7, the build quality is superb and without a doubt a lot of thought has gone into this product, but for £117 you expect the best, on the downside the drivers are bit naff to be honest, whilst playing WoW and Aion the system can lose the keyboard completely saying it doesnt reconise the USB device and you lose all the functions on the keyboard, you have to unplug and re-plug in to get it to work again, which is a bit of a pain if your in the middle of a raid or something, apart from that it work perfect in all other applications if Logitech can just iron out the driver issue with a few games they have a winner.

I splashed out on this keyboard recently. The amount of extra programmable keys, backlit colour options, and the LCD screen made this my gaming keyboard of choice (although it is anything but cheap). Logitech are known to be a good brand of 'pro gamer' peripherals, so I couldn't wait to test this out.

What followed upon returning home with this keyboard was by far the most maddening experience I've ever had with a device. From the outset, the LCD display would flicker intermittently, or turn itself off. Installation had to be re-done several times in order for the keyboard to be recognised by Logitech's software. The USB connection kept going on and off intermittently. The gaming profiles I'd managed to program in the short moments this keyboard was working were lost. These issues froze my Windows 7 OS several times, requiring a hard reboot. Trying to install it made me so mad, I could spit. For a keyboard this expensive, I expect the process to be very pain-free.

I'm running Windows 7 on a Dell XPS 8300. There may be an issue with Windows 7 in combination with specific types of motherboard. It turns out that the wiring was likely faulty on my board, so I returned it and exchanged it for another, which is working just fine at the moment. However, if you are running Windows 7, check on the Logitech forums first that your motherboard is not of the type users are having issues with. Also, some units appear to have faulty wiring (if the forums are anything to go by). If you get this product, and it doesn't work perfectly when everything is installed, take it back and exchange it or get a refund. The tech support guy at the store I bought this from reproduced my fault on his system instantly, so my issue was one of wiring.

I am loathed to give this product only 4 stars but I find it can be a bit limited in its community support. Although this has an LCD which should display all the info you need, the SDK is hard to understand and the community are still only really building apps for the G15s and G13s. I'm sure this will change but there isn't much about at the moment.
Other than that, this keyboard has a great build quality and looks awesome.

I was building a top end gaming machine so wanted a decent keyboard to go with my new system. I wanted a keyboard that looked nice and had illuminated keys. I was drawn to this model over others as it offered you the ability to set the keys colour to any setting of your choice rather than the default blue or red than most offer. The screen looked like a gimmick but i felt it was worth a try as there might be a few uses for it now or in the future.

Good Points:

- Nice design with good build quality.
- Good key feedback and feel
- Vast array of key colour combination options
- Occasionally the screen can be a useful addition. For eg music playback, Clock and Cpu load.
- Large quantity of dedicated macro keys.
- Highly customisable driver software and keyboard.

Bad Points:

- Limited availability of applets for the screen.
- Key illumination could do with being a little brighter.
- Keyboard USB ports are very stiff.
- Screen control keys are illuminated amber and not your chosen colour.
- Screen controls are stiff and hard to press.

Verdict:

I hope that the availability of applets improves for the keyboard with time. The keyboard has been out for quite a while already and I still struggled to find any apps for it and especially ones that were useful and weren't a gimmick. This keyboard is good but if you are not interested in backlight illumination or general customisation then there are many far cheaper options available.

After going from Microsoft Comfort Curve 2000 to this I was a bit sceptical about getting this as its 10x the price I paid for my Microsoft keyboard; however this keyboard is the most amazing keyboard I've ever used and is worth every penny. Also is about £50 cheaper on amazon than anywhere else.
The main part I love about this keyboard is the LCD screen which can be turned on and off at any time. I love the fact you can watch videos off your pc and still watch them while playing games. Also having applets like the performance monitor is very useful and allows me to see the CPU and RAM performance without opening task manager.
So far I've only had 1 problem with this keyboard which was that all my applets disappeared for some odd reason but was easy enough to get back I just launched them from the programs file folder.
Great keyboard haven't really used the G keys but when programming on the fly is awesome as it shows what you're doing in the LCD screen, unlike other keyboards where you feel like your slightly blinded while your programming the keys as you can't actually see what you're doing and trying to be very careful not to press a wrong key.
Amazing keyboard would recommend to anyone.
