upgraded from a G5 as my G5 cable protection (black cloth oversleeve) ended up ripping and didnt look nice any more. Well the G500 is a bit of a let down. the buttons on the left side are not practical to use. i only use the back one confortably. G5 was better. mouse wheel scrolling click is a bit loud for my taste. But the real killer is that dam black woven cloth over cable. straight out of the box you can see that the tight bends in the cable made for packaging it in are already causing the sleeve to part open. after 4 months the cable under is exposed again. I so wish logitech would have learned from the G5 already. It's a shame really as i like the mouse weights system and the mouse shape is good. I would recommend the G5 as in the end the G500 brings no advantage. Vincent

The Logitech G500 is the next mouse to join my line of Logitech mice, which includes the MX518 and M500. Both of these mice were good, but the G500 is supreme.

First of all, it's £35, Logitech and bred as part of their gaming division. That means it's incredibly cost-effective and is totally refined, reliable and purpose built. Slight tangent, just before I bought the G500 I tried out a SteelSeries Kana gaming mouse that set me back £55 and it was for all gaming intents and purposes rubbish. So you can buy the G500 in the comfort of knowing it's cheaper and far, far better than a premium brand gaming mouse.

The G500 fits so snugly in your palm making precision shooting in FPS games a breeze. It has 'just enough' buttons, meaning on one end you're not wanting for more and on the other you're not using a ridiculous mouse-shaped keyboard like many 'gaming mice' I see on the market. The two DPI toggles top-left of the mouse-1 button are great if you wish to quickly change your sensitivity (e.g. when sniping through a scope) and there's even an LED display on the mouse that tells you which DPI setting it's on. To round up the buttons, there are the standard forward, back and play thumb-area buttons which can be programmed to do anything you want in-game and on desktop (for example, I use them for media controls, incredibly handy). It's not all about the buttons though - the G500 comes with a 'weights cartridge' which slots into the underbelly. You can choose which weights you put into it - it comes with a selection of miniature 1.7kg and 4.5kg weights. Personally I use all the 4.5kg weights, I like my mice heavy.

What else to say? It's damn comfortable when gaming, refined, precise, very cost-effective and would serve as any gamer's best friend. Buy it, now.

I've been using this mouse for almost a month for Guild Wars 2 and League of Legends and I would recommend it to anyone.

For most MMOs, it's not the best mouse you can get, as games like SW:TOR and WoW have many many many more skills than GW2, and you don't have enough buttons on it.

In League of Legends, it's quite useful to bind item use on the mouse, or even a macro calling "ss"/"mia" in the chat.

    As for the mouse itself:
+ Great build quality; it feels sturdy as it won't decay over time (although I'm not completely sure about its colour, I haven't been disappointed from Logitech products in the past - although the Logitech logo tends to fade from them, the texture itself stays on, unlike my Steelseries WoW mouse -.- ...)
+ Laser in the front; the sensor is in the front, not the middle of the mouse, making it more responsive to fingertip movement, which is a great idea and I have never seen another mouse implement it.
+ Nice software; it's not perfect, but it's much better than I've seen in competition (Microsoft/Razer/Thermaltake are buggy at times, although Steelseries had a tad more intuitive UI and it wasn't buggy as well as Logitech's
+ On the fly dpi adjustment; for my kind of games it's useless, but if you play fps, it's great. I personally use it for picture/video and some times text editing, when I use the lower dpi settings for accuracy.
+ Large mouse feet; It glides well, not too much (I kinda like NO friction at all XD) but certainly it gives much less resistance to movement than a regular mouse.
+ Great weight adjustment; It has a set of 4,5 and 1,7 gram wheights and you can really adjust it to your liking. It's not a very light mouse by itself.
+ Braided cable, automatic profile switching for the program you're using (when you're using Paint it has X profile and when you're using GW2 it switches to Y profile with a simple alt tab), excellent ergonomical shape (it's the first mouse that is the exact shape of my hand)

+/- Free scroll wheel; I personally LOVE it, but I know many people who hate it. If you had an M500 or MX5500 mouse (had both and didn't like that much the scroll), it's not the same scroll, this one is much less flicky and much much more precise. You don't accidentaly press right/left scroll when you want to push the middle mouse button, and the scrolling, when not in free scroll mode, is much more precise.

    - No rubber coating; the sides have a grainy, gravel-like plastic, which doesn't let the mouse slip, but I like the rubber coating more. Thankfully this will be much easier to clean than rubber coating.
    - Sometimes the software does not recognize program switching (for example it thinks I'm still on the desktop). I'm not entirely sure it's Logitech's fault, but anyway, it's a rare occurance, and a simple Alt Tab fixes it.
    - The cable's position is weird; as with every Logitech mouse. I don't like it, and I feel it's prone to damage. Of course, given the mouse's shape, it couldn't be anywhere else, but... I haven't had any of my Logitech mice getting its cord cut off, but a friend of mine has issues with his M500 after slaming it on the desk (quite) a few times XD
    - "Few" buttons; Well it could use some more buttons, I don't need them, but I feel like it's the mouse that EVERY gamer should be using, and MMO gamers need more buttons.
    - Looks; it's not eye catching enough for its price. It has a silver/black/gray texture, not a brownish one like in the picture, but it's not as good looking as Razer mice, or my previous Steelseries WoW mouse.

    Closing thoughts:
I absolutely adore this mouse, given its flaws, and I believe it's maybe the best I've ever had. It's unbelievably ergonomic, and has more or less anything you want, if you don't need many buttons.
At 30ish pounds I believe it's very reasonably priced, even a tad cheap given the competition.
I don't believe that anyone would be disappointed by this mouse and it's great for everyday use, apart from games, which is extremely important. After all you don't want most of your computer usage to be with an uncomfortable mouse.

hi had this mouse for about 2 months now and i love it ...love the hyper scroll when browsing or looking through pdf files ..very accurate and very smooth laser by far the smoothest i've ever used..also i do use it for gaming it is the best mouse ive used for that ...last one was a gigabyte m8800 i swapped it because the mouse scroll wheel was crap
the clicks was not strong enough to hold it still during very fast movements,ie it would change a weapon if you moved to fast...this one is much better but not perfect still could do with harder clicks(hence only 4 stars) but it does not jump. The weights do help but it quite heavy already maybe not needed but still a cool adition
love all the buttons... all perfectly placed for me.. easy access just a matter of getting used to them being there
nearly perfect but scroll wheel lets it loose one star when gaming

I love this mouse. I've been using it for gaming for the last year and it's held up great. I love that I can select the sensitivity on the fly. It's not over the top like some other mouses, but it does everything I need and does it well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tout simplement : PARFAITE !
Reviewed in France on 3 September 2010
