How are ratings calculated?
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

I don't normally write reviews but have made an exception just in case I can help anyone who suffered from the same crippling RSI like I did. My forearms used to hurt and ache regularly and I had all the symptoms of RSI or carpal tunnel syndrome. I tried changing my workspace and reading various books and nothing helped. I bought many other mice (including the regular logitech trackball) all to no avail and was desperate to find a solution as I am a programmer and use a computer every day. I was very sceptical about trackballs and didn't like the idea or look of them. Thankfully, when it turned up, I persevered for about 4 weeks and now six months later, I am virtually pain free (still some odd aches but the relief I feel compared to the old pain is huge) and I credit this Logitech mouse with the fix. If you do get one, make sure you don't give up using it after a week or so and persevere - it takes time to adjust but if it does for you what it did for me, you will not regret it.

Having previously enjoyed using an earlier Logitech Ball mouse and having started to get some wrist pain from overuse of a traditional optical mouse at work I was pleased to obtain this unit via Amazon. The transmitter unit has to be plugged into the USB of the PC, I would have preferred to be able to connect directly with my laptop without the transmitter, or with my Logitch Alto wireless keyboard laptop riser stand, but now I am happy with it. I have it plugged into my riser and just plug the laptop into the riser in the morning when I get to work and everything works fine. I like the way this mouse reduces the office desktop space and the way that I can leave the cursor in one place and make multiple clicks. The installation process was trouble free (I'm using Vista 64bit) and recommend the product to other users who may be considering purchase.

Have used the Logitech Marble trackball for many years and always been happy with it.
Bought the Wireless TrackMan for the office - significantly more comfortable (not that I ever really had cause to complain with the Marble) and one less wire on the desk doesn't hurt.
Only thing stopping it getting 5 stars is the occasionally sticky left button. Mildly irritating when it happens, but not sufficiently regular occurance to justify returning it.
[UPDATE June 2009]
It now appears that the matt grey/black plastic is not actually matt grey/black plastic after all - it is black plastic covered with a transucent film which has now begun to peel (untidily) away after a few months of heavy use to reveal shiny black plastic beneath. Not the end of the world in an office environment but it looks sufficiently untidy that, had I purchased it for home, I'd be a little hacked off as it looks a bit of a mess.

First saw this when visiting a friend and saw how his hand comfortably fitted around it. As I have mobility problems and issues sitting for long periods at my office desk at work and home I bought one. Took some getting used to but very comfortable to use. My employer has now purchased one for me to use at work. Great benefit is that has no cables, small USB connection to the PC means less cable clutter on workspace.

I can't get on with mice because I find they cause RSI in my wrist and so have always used trackballs instead. I am currently trying to go wireless on most of my devices and so was drawn to this pointing device. I've only had it a day but am already at home with it but would agree with other reviewers concerning the left button. It is a bit heavy and I think this could be due to its size and shape. On other Logitech trackballs I've owned this button was bigger and lighter.
The other buttons on the trackball are a scroll wheel with two fast scroll buttons, a lock button which is really useful in drag select operations and two browser navigation buttons above the pesky left button. All these are proving to be really useful.
The only other issue is installation. I have a Logitech cordless keyboard (the LX300) but don't use the mouse because of the RSI. The LX300 has an rf pod which plugs into USB or PS/2. The TrackMan doesn't work with this so I still had to plug in its own pod so now I have two of the things on my desk. In addition, I couldn't install the TrackMan's MouseWare - it thought the LX300's SetPoint software was a latter version. So it was necessary to remove SetPoint, install the MouseWare then re-install SetPoint. This cured the problem and now both SetPoint and MouseWare are co-existing. So a less than perfect 4 stars. However, don't let these niggles put you off a great device.

This is the 3rd one of these that I've had.
They last a long time and I find it a lot more comfortable to use than a mouse. I would certainly recommend it to anyone who gets hand ache through doing too much writing. I find that a mouse has a similar hand action to that of using a pen. The roller ball is different, so I don't get hand ache!
It doesn't get clogged up very often as the ball is the size of a snooker ball.
