One of the main lessons in this book concerns the businessman's mind - the fact that some people are successful because they operate with a moral compass set differently to the average person's. The author fell victim to one such person who obviously used the lack of a written contract to extract maximum cash from the author's creation.
An enlightening and excellent book, the most enjoyable thing I've read for a long time.
Given all that, you might expect him to be gung-ho about Nessie's existence. In fact he is admirably objective, admitting that his own beliefs have changed over the years and showing how the most famous photographs and sightings have turned out to be hoaxes or mistakes. Sadly, the Jurassic reptile theory is almost certainly a myth - but the human story behind it still makes for great reading.
The book is really two in one, both an in-depth history of the Loch Ness phenomenon and a personal account of how it has influenced the author's life. It also contains a wealth of information about the Highlands and its natural landscape. There are lots of striking illustrations and some excellent anecdotes along the way.
If you want to know the true story of Loch Ness, this is absolutely the book you must read.
I was also delighted at how quickly it came. I wasn't that much longer that orders for state-side goods. Good job!
