I'm always on the lookout for more Wurzels CDs. And when I saw that this particular album was up for pre-order, I pounced on it (not only for myself, but I also bought several discs to send to pals in the States who I have converted into Wurzelphiles). The tracks on this CD are made up of mostly covers, one original song, and no parodies.

Somewhat-overplayed songs like "Ruby," "Rockstar," and "Chelsea Dagger" get refreshed and revitalised and become fun again by being Wurzelised. Spinal Tap's "Sex Farm" is really an obvious choice for the Westcountry legends to cover, and it comes out sounding somehow JUST RIGHT. Wurzels + Spinal Tap = Comic Song Nirvana. The final track on the album is "Ode to Adge Cutler," a nostalgic and moving tribute to the band's late founder, and I am not ashamed to say that it brought a tear or two to my eye. I have one complaint -- and only one -- in that I would like to see the Wurzels get back to doing more parodies and original songs than covers. Still, in the meantime, this exceedingly likeable disc will keep me going nicely until the next CD comes out.

So, if you are already a fan of the Wurzels, or want to hear an EXTREMELY alternative take on modern popular music, you can't go too far wrong with listening to "A Load More Bullocks" while downing some nice cider. And if this is your first foray in the world of the Wurzels and you want to hear more, you should be able to get a good selection of their other works (of equal or even better quality!) here on Amazon. Proper job 'n' all. Ooh, ar!

I awaited this album with great anticipation. A new Wurzels album - always an event! I have to say I am over the moon with it - in my opinion their finest ever release (and I have been a fan since I first saw them as Adge Cutler and...in 1973!) How these guys keep doing what they do is beyond me, I have seen them live more times than I can remember and have never seen a bad show. The choice of tracks on this album is inspired, 'Wurzelised' Nickleback, Stranglers, Take That and (my favorite) Fratellis, but the stand out track has to be the Adge Cutler tribute - bought a lump to my throat, very poignant, well done Pete. If you are a Wurzels fan - go buy the album - you will not be disappointed

Didn't even get to play it. When my cousin (expat, Royal Navy ret, formerly of the West Country) heard the first Wurzel cd they were immediately confiscated for proper examination on the basis that someone born in Leeds and raised in Canada couldn't possibly comprehend it.
He loves the birthday present.
But I did too understand it!

My daughter wails: But these are OUR songs! Yeah, and don't the original artist wish they had done the songs as good as this. They blew everyone else away at Glastonbury. The main arena's couldn't compete when they were on one of the little stages. It's the Wurzels! it can only be great. Buy all their stuff, it's all good.

Was introduced to this CD by Chris Evans on the morning show on Radio 2. Thought my husband would love it and he does. Extra bonus is that we all love it and it's a guaranteed sing along for the car.

Following the success of their previous album, `Never Mind the Bullocks', the Wurzels have decided to repeat the formula with this offering. What we have is a series of well known pop songs covered by the zider drinking combine `arvester driving country lads, using their inimitable west country accents and instruments.

I must confess that it doesn't quite work for me. In the main what we have is a well known song replicated almost note for note, but sung with a funny accent with a few ooh ars and chicken noises in the background. It's mildly interesting, but not really different enough to the originals to be great. Things really take off occasionally, such as the accordion rendition of the famous melody from `Golden Brown', and the `Ode to Adge Cutler'. This latter is easily the best track on the album, and a great tribute to Adge, the sadly deceased ex frontman of the band.

So in all three stars. Listenable, mildly amusing, with one great track and one or two good ones.

Covers are always more interesting when the artist gives a different spin on the original song. The Wurzels take a number of the current songs of the time and in many cases improve on them-depending on just whether you're a rock fan or not
