Read the other reviews for general information. Additionally:
- I have found that when cooking for two, you might want to put in a little more water than they suggest (2x instead of 1.5x)
- you CAN cook brown rice in it - but you need 3x the amount of water
Great product - does the job.
1, wash rice at least four times to get rid of the starch, rub rice in fingers whilst washing
2, All rice cookers spit a bit when cooking unless you go for the pressurised rice pot type and they are more expensive
3, People often complain that the rice is undercooked and sticks to the bottom. Leave for 5 minutes after the cooker has popped. It wont stick and be just right
Wiping a little oil onto the inside surface of the bowl may help. Other than that nice rice in under 15 minutes with the minimum of electricity Why four stars? I don't think the non-stick surface looks very durable, but its no worse than others for more money
BUT it died after only 5 uses.
The other reviews are a mix of "its great" and "it broke" so I was hoping I'd get one of the great ones but since mine broke so quickly I won't be getting the same one again.
If the reliability problems were fixed then this would be a really good item.
I bought this as a result of reading Nigella Lawson's Kitchen: Recipes from the Heart of the Home
Previously I had cooked rice in a pan of boiling water and constantly watched/tested it until it was cooked.
Having now learnt how to drive this cooker, my rice is now fluffier and the grains remain smaller and nuttier. Bonus; you can just walk away and leave it to do the job while you get on with other things.
I only use Tilda rice, both Basmati and Thai Jasmine, usually a single portion of one third of a cup of uncooked rice.
I put the rice in a sieve and wash it under the cold tap whilst scrunching the rice hard between my fingers for about 3 minutes. Transfer it to the rice cooker with a some salt and just about twice the volume of cold water, maybe just a little less. Put it in on cook and serve just after it goes into warming mode. easy, peasy.
Yes, it's now Sept 2012 now and the rice cooker continued to cook beautiful rice. But now it flicks to "warm" far too early before the rice has completely cooked. I now know pretty well how long it takes to cook properly and jam the switch in the "cook" position until the rice is cooked. Obviously not ideal at all, but, this will work till I get a replacement. Probably the Judge Mini Rice Cooker
The Lloytron lasted me this amount time, I use it 3 or 4 times a week, so I suppose it hasn't done badly, but I won't be buying another one.

Broke the second time we used it. I've owned many rice cookers and never experienced one as bad as this.Published 15 months ago by Lewis
Would not buy this product again only used a few times and it brokePublished 17 months ago by Mdmd ie
brilliant - can do just the right amount for me alone or for more of us having a meal together. With my other rice cooker I could only cook for 4 as a minimum - so a lot of wastePublished 21 months ago by Frances
