Format: Audio CD
This double CD was first released as two separate CD:s. Cobalt Blue has a musical world of its own. Ambient sounds from Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois blend beautifully with Michael Brook's own invention, the infinite guitar. Some songs have a world music feeling to it. This was something to be explored later by Brook with people like Gasparayan, Srinivas and Ali Fateh Kahn. The album holds together very well even if the mood and tempos change from bright to dark and fast to slow. The classic song "Ultramarine", which has later emerged in films like Heat and other soundtracks, cuts through with shining beauty.
The other CD is a live recording made by Brook at the London Aquarium for the release of Cobalt Blue. What is amazing here is that all the music is played by Brook. He controls sampling, effects, midi and other sounds as a true master. He rarely does solo performances and here is a good opportunity to hear him do that. Most of the material on the live record comes from Cobalt Blue, but there is at least one new track "Cascade". This is simply a beautiful package of Michael Brook at his best.
