Product Description

Product Description

Much bootlegged, though never heard in even reasonable audio quality, this concert – one of a handful undertaken for Fripp & Eno in 1975 – is routinely described as “legendary”. Hearing the tapes in fully restored audio quality, it’s easy to understand why it attracts such reverence now & perhaps, why the shows attracted such hostility then. No Roxy Music hits, No King Crimson riffs, just a duo sitting in near darkness with a reel to reel tape recorder, improvising over the pre-recorded loops with a filmed background projection. Replace the reel to reel machine with a couple of laptops/iPads/sequencers & the core of much current live performance from electronica to hip-hop was there some thirty years in advance. At the time, audiences responded to such a glimpse of the future with booing, walkouts & general confusion.

Thanks to the discovery & restoration of the original backing tapes, it was possible – with much painstaking restoration work by Alex Mundy at DGM – to isolate, de-noise & match the live elements from the performance tapes to the studio loops to produce the final recording.

I can heartily recommend this to any and everyone who liked the original Fripp and Eno classics, or Fripp's later solo outings or his work with Theo Travis.

Rather wonderful versions of material from No Pussyfooting and Evening Star rub shoulders with hints and snippets of King Crimson and Discreet Music to magical effect.

The restoration work is excellent, as the sound quality is very good.

The inclusion of the drone tapes is the icing and cherry on a very rich and tasty cake.

I am a painter and this music has never left my turntable since both albums came out. So a treat now to hear live this pieces and so much more from this particular period that did not make a possible third album

I was kind of dreading hearing this album it as it contains live music off three of my favourite studio albums albums of all time; "No Pussyfooting", "Evening Star" and "Discreet Music" and was put together from bootlegs and and personal tapes of the artists. I need not have worried because the quality is fabulous and the artistry and innovation on show here is breathtaking. The whole concept behind the concert with its minimalist approach accompanied by the film "Berlin Horse" was, as the CD booklet explains, years ahead of its time. This is a superb CD which captures two of modern musics great innovators creating some of the most wonderful and beautiful music you will ever hear. Many modern musicians are still trying to catch up with these two and the ideas they shared. This is a glorious and emphatic display of just how good they were/are and how large the debt a lot of modern music owes them.

Disc one left me thinking that I'd made a real mistake here the sound quality is a bit iffy and there seemed to be a lot of audience noise. But disc's two and three are better, much. much better. If you're a lover of the work of Fripp & Eno then this is well worth getting.

If you like Fripp & Eno this is a must have.It has been a long time coming.Three discs and an informative booklet with all the background on the gigs. Both Robert Fripp and Brian Eno have had a huge influence on modern music so even if you don't know their work that well why not give it a try?.

I knew Fripp- well King Crimson, and Eno, but not Fripp & Eno before hearing this. Having had it on my wish list as a result of a review somewhere for some time before I heard it I have to admit that it helps to realise that it is a recording of an historic event, with a baffled and bewildered audience making their mystified presence felt. But even before reading an explanation of what I was hearing the music comes through, it is clear that there is some musical insight here, it is not just messing around with tape recorders (I've done plenty of that myself!) but a real musical idea, worked out and coming at you through your speakers and forty years' advances in musical technology. I'm not sure I want to hear No Pussyfooting now, will it stand up to comparison with this 'real experience'?

Having bought their two releases when they came out on vinyl i am thoroughly enjoying this aural experience as i write this review. Quality of recording is far better than I thought it would be once past the introductory track one. An excellent purchase.

I have been a big fan of Fripp and his work with Eno for a long time and I have seen Robert perform soundscapes at 4-5 installations. OK this is a relic, an historic document - call it what you like - the only surviving recording of the original tour but the music is poor. I would forgive the sound quality but the musical ideas presented are a joke when you listen to No-Pussy-Footing etc. Why was the tour cancelled?, why were they laughed off stage? - because the musical ideas came nowhere close to what they had presented on vinyl - I think I would have walked out of this gig!
