Live At Leeds, Live At Last, Alive II. Get rid - burn them & get this - NOW!
If like me, you tend to shy away from so called 'live' albums - usually overdubbed, crowd enhanced, weedily mixed inferior or exact versions of the recorded tracks totally defeating the effort of the live experience - go for this superb artifact. It's worth the import price - presuming it doesnt get a UK release the week after you've shelled out.
And if you were dissapointed with 2002's Evil Heat (personally I loved it and saw it as nothing more than a bubblegum XTRMNTR) you should be more than persuaded by the versions here - total, instinctual energy. In a year when The Darkness & White Stripes are the music press's darlings, how come the Scream arnt the biggest band in the world 'cos when it comes to high energy rock and roll this lot blow the rest clear out of the water. Certainly more than a bunch of 'ironic' poodle rockers or insipid two piece garage rock (and I get to say that cos I'm not in the Von Bondies). Er look out.
Anyway, to get down to the nitty gritty, this is simply the loudest, rawest, honest & forward thinking rock & roll album for a long long desperate time. And certainly more a testament to the greatness & perfection of The Scream than the frankly predicatable and dull greatest hits package - great tunes but no surprises and the wrong version of Come Together. This is a fitting aural statement for a band who without trying can lay claim to being the MOST important indie band of the last 20 years - no? Well, check this - Primal Scream were the band who influenced the Stone Roses to go jangly & without the money earned from Screamadelica Alan McGee could afford to take a financial risk on Oasis when noone else would touch em.

This is hands down the ultimate Primal Scream record! I've been a fan of everything they've done, but I've never heard them live. They couldn't have picked two better live sets to crop from for 'Live in Japan'. I'm sure there are many comparison's to other bands live sets, but I think this really does stand by itself. If you want fantastically produced/mixed recordings, buy their studio stuff and not this. It's not so much raw, as unhinged. This is for Rock n' Roll fans only. When you listen to this album, the question that comes to mind, is not: When will Primal Scream stop?, but................... WHO IS GONNA STOP EM'????
