Transform your organization into a constantly learning, ever-evolving industry leader with the proven operating model of leading global firms.

For decades, leaders of large, complex organizations have been rightfully encouraged to run their organizations like lean, agile startups. More often than not, they place their bets on trends like digital transformation or design thinking. Well-intended, yet in isolation they are not enough.

There’s another, better way to drive durable, effective change in your organization, and it’s been proven effective by global IT and business consulting leader Infosys. The
Live Enterprise operating model provides a clear path to transform large complex businesses into agile, digital ecosystems that evolve with changing market needs and scale to any size.

You’ll learn how to apply the benefits of the startup operating model—but go much further. This groundbreaking guide addresses issues critical to transform large organizations, such as:

  • Create an organizational structure that drives collaboration, innovation, strategic alignment, and new culture across distributed interconnected teams
  • Respond quickly yet thoughtfully—and scientifically—to opportunities to create valuable new employee and customer experiences
  • Reengineer your value chain to see what’s missing, what can be improved, and what can be eliminated to generate exponential value
  • Automate systems so routine decisions can be acted upon with maximum human intuition and minimum human intervention
Groundbreaking in theory and long-term strategy, this game-changing guide includes practical steps you can take now―for immediate, concrete results―while laying the groundwork to operate with agility in the future.

The application of
Live Enterprise enabled Infosys to make the kinds of changes during the COVID crisis to not only survive but drive outstanding financial results. Now, you can use this innovative approach to position your company for the highly unpredictable future ahead.

Basically, The Live Enterprise takes the lived experience of the authors and lays it out for the rest of us.

Not only does the book explain an operating model from the business and tech perspectives, it frames both in terms of nature too.

That’s why this book wins – it’s about people, business, tech and the planet.

From agile to AI, ‘digital brains’ to ‘digital runways’, it’s all brought into focus by examples in nature (outer space and psychology, trees, bees and mushrooms, dinosaurs and birds).

If we are serious about sustainability and the new normal, then this book’s an important contribution to the conversation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nature is the ultimate blueprint for a resilient evolving enterprise!

Jeff Kavanaugh and Rafee Tarafdar have taken a large complex subject, a new enterprise operating model, and distilled it into a digestible book. Beyond being digestible, the Live Enterprise provides interesting examples of how companies can operate following examples from nature. Examples that illustrate how enterprises and individuals can evolve purposefully, just like nature.

Following the global pandemic we've experienced as a global community, this book couldn't be more timely. Traditional operating models have failed and faltered. Whether you are a seasoned professional, just starting your career, or a business student, this book has a perspective for you. For me, Ch.10, 'Triple Helix', was most compelling. Companies can longer survive by only generating returns for shareholders. They must now consider stakeholders - employees, activist consumers, and responsibilities on broad societal topics like inclusion. The Live Enterprise operating model and principles directly align to this new expanded view of capitalism.

Thank you for the great read!

After the global pandemic, the large organizations have implemented changes in the methodologies and approach to sustain with the situation. The book authors Jeff Kavanaugh and Mohammed Rafee has given a thorough and thought-provoking insights and practical recommendations for leaders to improve their own operating model and performance.
Introduced Live Enterprise model with 8 operating themes which offers guidance on how to change perspective and view the enterprise as a living organism, enabled by technology. Also, elucidates how businesses link with the nature.
This book interprets different techniques that can be implemented in the large organizations along with the executed outcomes.
I consider this as an encyclopedia endorsed with the understanding, knowledge, and experience, also believe everyone in business and students looking for new strategies must read this book. I found this insightful and became a huge fan of this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars An elegant concept: Easy to grasp but with a great deal of depth
Reviewed in the United States on 8 February 2021

Scientists have been studying nature to find innovation, so it stands to reason that businesses could do some thing similar. In this book, Jeff and Rafee describe some absolutely concepts from nature that are absolutely fascinating on their own, like the forest/fungus concept in chapter 7. The neat thing here is that they take that nature example and show ways business leaders can put it to work at work.

Why does Live Enterprise matter? Consumers and customers view businesses as more than just profit-making machines servicing shareholders. They see that we're all part of this same ecosystem and will choose to do business with companies that perceive that as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Shows how to design a better corporation

It’s incredibly tricky when you compare evolution to other endeavors. But this book navigates that tightrope in a delicate and compelling manner. It finds thoughtful comparisons that made me see corporate structures in different ways and a whole new series of possibilities.

The analogies to the natural world do a great job of shifting your thinking, from the way things have been to the way things ought to be.

This book lays out a compelling way forward, where businesses can do well financially, do well for their people and do well for the planet. It's a world that doesn’t exist yet, but I hope it will someday soon.

The Live Enterprise: Creating a Continuously Evolving and Learning Organization explores the concept of how businesses can survive during major disruptions by simply observing nature. The authors utilize essential qualities of live organisms to explain new operating models, achieve agility on a global scale, and evolve with a changing market. This is a powerful reminder that lessons learned will help companies operate like startups and respond to change quickly.
For those companies working to survive COVID-19, evolve, and not operate like the business of old, the book is highly recommended.
