Although I am a GREAT fan of Josephine Cox and have all her books, for the first time I was a little disapointed. The book starts very well written but at the end seems VERY rushed and crammed and leaves some unanswered questions.
Not the best of Josephines books.

Set in the 1930s, this novel focuses on Luke Hammond, a business man and Amy Maitland, a jilted bride, who is trying to overcome her heartbreak. Luke may appear to have it all but he is a troubled man. His beautiful wife, Sylvia, has been left with brain damage. Needing attention, she is prone to violent mood swings. To escape the stress, he goes into a cafe every Tuesday in disguise where he meets Amy and a friendship begins.

Having read many Josephine Cox, I found this one disappointing. It had an intriguing start, a fascinating cast of heroes and villains, but fell flat just after half way through. It wasn't as gripping as "The Broken Man" and although it was okay to read, I felt it was rushed towards the end.
If this is your first experience of Josephine Cox, don't let it put you off. She has written some brilliant novels.

A light, slow read.

This was only the second book that i had read by Josephine, the first being 'The Journey' - I was on holiday and could not get access to the sequel to it (which was quite frustrating) so i decided to read 'Live the Dream' - I felt that the book, although very well written, was really rushed at the end, almost as if she had got very bored of that story and wanted to get onto her next one. I am just hoping that the third book that i read by Josephine will give me a satisfactory ending otherwise, i may give up altogether.

Another good read from this author. Gritty down to earth northern story with believable charactors, just as you would expect from Josephine Cox.
