Format: Audio CD
Jazz is at its best when it's live, and Monk was at his best in 1964 when this was recorded. The tight little quartet that plays over this two night period gives some fabulous renditions of Blue Monk, Straight no chaser and Round Midnight. They also never fail to lose Monk's hard and driving style of piano. There's some great Sax, Bass and Drums that sound like Art Blakely on a good day at times. Its difficult to review live records, but put simply this doesn't dissapoint or detract from Monk at his best, and only strengthens his legendary status.

A good second hand copy by a master, great double album of bebop, a live recording and really cool jazz! AET
