The release of Live at Benaroya Hall with the Seattle Symphony marks the realization of two dreams for the acclaimed singer/songwriter: she got to work with a world class symphony and record in this legendary venue in her hometown. The stunning set features Carlile and her band running through a beautifully vibrant collection of her best-loved originals, including 'Dreams' and 'The Story', as well as a number of cover songs she has come to make her own. In addition to a 30-piece orchestra, she s joined by her stellar, longtime band featuring guitarist Tim Hanseroth and bassist Phil Hanseroth (collectively known as The Twins ), cellist Josh Neumann and drummer Allison Miller.

I have all three of Brandi's previous albums and I love them all. I was supposed to see her live in London recently but unfortunately she cancelled and now I know what I missed. Her music genre is described as country/folk but I hate country and would describe it as more folk/rock. She has a super voice and certainly does'nt disappoint on this Live album with the Seattle Symphony. She sings songs from some of her three albums and there are some good cover versions of Bob Dylans "Forever young", Elton John's "Sixty years on" and Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah", fab and this is on top of her wonderful songs. This is a very good album sung by a very underated singer who in my opinion deserves to be up there with the very best. She has a very good band and I just cannot wait to hear her new album as she writes some lovely songs and her band delivers a good punch. Enjoy.

This is a great buy, whether you have all Brandi's records or are new to her music; it showcases her superb songs and songwriting, and that amazing voice, which even if it isn't instantly recognisable or distinct, is exciting in its range, power and raw feeling.

When you buy live albums, you never know what you're going to get. It can be anything from a slightly scratchier version of the records to something totally different to what you have heard on record to a spine-tingling experience which makes you wish 100% that you were there. This album is both the second and third of those!

I was confident - from the reviews and the fact that it was her playing with an orchestra - that this wouldn't be rubbish, but I doubted other claims that this was in fact her best recording. But having listened to it (and then pressed 'play' many more times) I think it is truly terrific. I only had The Story and Bear Creek, so most of the songs on here (other than the covers and the tracks off The Story) were new to me. And discovering those songs was only part of the pleasure.

From start to finish this is a great record: the songs are all gorgeous recordings of a band and singer on fire, the cover versions are fresh and involving (from a haunting version of Science of Silence sung by the Hanseroth twins to a version of Hallelujah which has, after much thought, become my favourite, surpassing Jeff Buckley for the pure feeling that Brandi brings to it) and the crowd and pre-song chat bring out the charm of what must have been a really special night.

Live at Benaroya Hall with the Seattle Symphony is a live album and fourth album overall by the American singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile, released on May 3, 2011 through Columbia Records.
Recorded during two sold-out shows in November 2010 at Benaroya Hall in Seattle, Washington, the album features Washington-native Carlile and her long-time band (including brothers Phil and Tim Hanseroth) performing alongside the Seattle Symphony.
The album contains three songs from Carlile's second studio album The Story (2007), five from Give Up the Ghost (2009), and three covers, including Elton John's "Sixty Years On", Simon & Garfunkel's "The Sound of Silence", and Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" (which also features Alphaville's "Forever Young").

This is another beautiful album from the talented Brandi Carlie. My favourite songs feature in the track list plus one or two surprise cover songs that I enjoyed listening to very much.
Since I bought this cd 3 weeks ago it has been played almost every day and I'm still not tired of it.

I heard the track "The Story" on Desert Island Disks and researched Brandi' discography before buying this CD. She's Seattle's favourite girl and does an annual sell-out concert there with the Philharmonic, a sort of homecoming. So she loves the audience and they love her. Not as polished as a studio recording, but brimming with vitality and her charm. Highly recommended.

I've had this album for a few years now and never rated it!! Silly me! Brandi Carlile is generally all round amazing anyway but to be backed by an orchestra, this then adds new levels of awesomeness!!

BUY IT!!

Having seen Brandi live at Islington Town Hall last year, I had to complete my collection of her albums with this wonderful recording. It is worth the money for just one fantastic track. "Looking Out" is as good as it gets.

First album of Brandi Carlile in my music collection - lovely lovely voice - next time I shall purchase studio recording
simply to avoid the crowd noise and crowd entertainment which i find spoils some of the listening experience.
