Product description

Product Description

A masterclass in interplay and sympathetic playing from Big Walter Horton and Ronnie Earl. Newly re-mixed and now with previously unseen photos of the performances utilised on the new packaging. Acknowledged as one of the greatest albums of modern blues this was Walter Horton's last session and Ronnie Earl's first! Walter was still at the very top of his ever inventive game and Ronnie was already a fully formed guitar stylist( he was so unknown then that the original release credited him as Ronnie Horvath). The original multi track recordings has been meticulously restored and remixed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great stuff! 22 May 2014

First off, I never listened to the original recording so I don't know how this compares, but I have to say this is a really good CD. I'm sure some will complain about the audio quality but let's face it, there is only so much you can do to touch up a live recording.

That said, it is a great set of tunes, really rocking & hopping. The band is excellent, top players in their on right and they never miss a beat. The energy is high and they carry it throughout the CD. I didn't realize what a good guitarist Ronnie Earl is.

Walter is playing well. He's always been a tough one for me to figure out. Technically, he's not as good as some, but he always has the right notes at the right place. As far as just a good sound, he may be the best.

Almost an hours worth of music. This one is well worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blues Masters Unite 25 May 2014
By William C. - Published on Amazon.com

Big Walter "Shakey" Horton played harp (harmonica) for most of the "who's who" blues legends. I cannot imagine Charlie Musselwhite, Paul Butterfield, or even Sugar Ray (who is featured on the first 3 cuts of this album) nor being profoundly influenced by Horton. What an additional reward of having Ronnie Earl (guitar) and Ola Dixon (drums) accompany him. What I appreciate about this album is that they let Big Walter shine and do not attempt to over power him. The cuts with Sugar Ray are also very good.

Like this on a lot. Good quality, and plenty of the instrumental stuff.
5.0 out of 5 stars A gem of a live blues album. Must have! 28 Jun. 2015

A gem! The entire cast of musicians is solid. They play so well together it's scary. If you like very intelligent blues guitar finger picking and harp players, Big Walter and Sugar Ray, trading leads with the guitarist (Ronnie Earl) then you'll love this. The supporting musicians are excellent as well.

One of the most tasteful recordings I've ever heard. Great harp from both Big Walter and Sugar Ray; not to mention guitar from one my all-time favorites; Ronnie Earl. I keep listening to this one over & over; I hear new things every time.
