I have a few Mulgrew Miller CD's ( Live At Yoshi's Vol 1 + 11 , and both Live At Kennedy Center ones ) , and all are very consistent .
Obviously influenced by McCoy Tyner ( prior to his heavier phase of the early - mid 1970's ) , and stylistically similar to John Hicks , he also is very much like Hicks in the sense that he is old-fashioned , and I mean that in the best possible way .
Lovely tunes , flawlessly played and with good support from the other players , make this a nice listening experience .
It is also well recorded , and has a nice ambience to it .
Very highly recommended , with a very nice version of the Hoagy Carmichael classic , Skylark , being a particular stand out .
Rather sadly no longer with us , he passed away some months earlier , it is fortunate that this music gives us something of note to remember him by .

5.0 out of 5 stars Piano Trio Par Excellence 6 Feb. 2007
By Robert M. Hardiman - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
This group and their leader is setting the standard for the current crop of piano trios. Simply recorded and mastered to the hignest standards. Don't miss this album!

I would strongly suggest that the music being recorded and issued by MaxJazz, this small St. Louis based label, be explored by the lovers of jazz. The piano series and singer series are the greatest!

We have been privileged to hear Mulgrew Miller in concert many times. He was a giant of a man but had the most amazing touch. His passion for his music came through loud and clear. Mulgrew passed away a few months ago but he has left a legacy of great music for all to enjoy.

This guy's an amazing pianist. Sophisticated, beautiful improvisation. His "Skylark" is the reason I bought this album and .... oh wow .... one of the most inspiring performances of a jazz standard I think I've ever heard.

Nobody played the piano like Mulgrew! He was most definitely at the top of list and this recording exemplifies it!
