The CD and DVD are of the same songs. Both are very good. The CD has some swearing on it, in context with the songs, whilst the DVD has quiet a lot of swearing on it; as you would expect at an adult orientated live gig.
Their music is in the style of 'Pirate Metal' (pirate themed heavy metal) with a good dose folk rock in there as well. They have some very catchy tunes & lyrics - 'Keelhauled' & 'Set Sail & Conquer' to name but two.
I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the CD and watching the DVD.

Funny old band Alestorm. Buried among the frankly absurd lyrics and modus operandi is a great band waiting to get out. I don't mean that as a criticism because it's not. What I sort of think is that Alestorm probably started off as a bit of fun with a choice of songs and look that made sense at the time but could do with being dumped now. And that's because they are actually pretty damn good.

What Alestorm are is a seriously good heavy metal band limited by the initial premise of making 'pirate metal.' Great, they've done that now so it's time to move on to greater things. And they really could as well, because the singer can sing - mostly - and the musicianship really hits the heavy metal bones in my body.

Anyway what we have here is a live album. And it sounds live as well. Most live albums made by the bigger bands are not really live at all and that simply because they have the money to do so much post production work to 'improve' the sound, what you really get is a studio CD with some fans chanting in the background. Probably because Alestorm are a small band the money would not be there to do some grand work with computers after the initial recordings so it does sound pretty raw.

And isn't that great. A live album that sounds live. Yup, loads of mistakes, vocals that are not tuned in perfectly and a crowd that once in a while seem to take over. Bloody brilliant. Think back to AC/DC and their If You Want Blood album. Noise, mistakes and a real live record.

So, if you've already got the three studio albums then buy this. Great fun and a proper live effort.

What can I say? Not as popular in their home country as they are in Europe.
We heard of them and You Tubed them as as a novelty band. Seriously thought that listening to one maybe two pirate style songs would be a novelty then it would get boring. But oh no..... two tracks lead to three and on it goes. Feet are tapping, and you just want to hear more. And the live DVD looks like an Alestorm gig would be so much fun. Makes me want to run off with Captain Jack.
Don't write them off give them a try

I love every minute of this Cd. Refreshingly different take on heavy metal. Who would think you could fuse thrash and Folk music? The lyrics leave me laughing so much I have tears streaming down my face. Who likes pirates? Who likes songs? Who likes songs about pirates? A resounding "YES" to all three.

Had Black Sails at Midnight and saw Alestorm supporting Dragonforce. In my opinionAlestorm stole the show. After that concert I bought the remaining albums that I did not have and can't wait to see them again. The live dvd and cd totally capture the energy and fun when Alestorm are in concert.

What an amazing CD/DVD set. Alestorm are described as 'Pirate Metal' and they certainly don't disappoint. To coin an advertising slogan "they do exactly what it says on the tin". Pure brilliance.
