Formed in 2004 by 'Creed' members Mark Tremonti, Brian Marshall and Scott Phillips and former Mayfield Four singer Myles Kennedy, Alter Bridge is a hard rock band that continues to gain in popularity in a time when record and ticket sales are down. Having spawned 5 Top Ten hits in the US and numerous Top Ten Hits Internationally, Alter Bridge is now becoming one of the most respectable hard rock touring acts in the World. Three of the members' other band Creed was one of the most successful rock groups ever, having sold over 30 million records, winning a Grammy Award and selling out arenas and stadiums world- wide. 'Alter Bridge- Live from Amsterdam' was recorded and shot over the band's triumphant sold-out European Tour in late 2008, with the main show being captured at the famous Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam in front of over 8,000 screaming fans. This is the band's first live album and the DVD element was shot in High Definition with 18 cameras, thus capturing every angle of every song. Alter Bridge are probably the highest profile rock band in the world at the moment.

Anyway, on it went and I went through the first few tracks and mmmmmmmmm, I was not happy!. The recorded sound was not good! Yes, you can hear the crowd whistle and cheer and yes, you can hear Myles' vocals (when he's close to the mike) but the separation of the bass and guitars is so muddy that the tunes are almost lost in the barrage of sound. I tried using the graphic equaliser to rectify the problem but to no avail and I have to say that I am more than a little disappointed as AB's three studio albums are brilliantly recorded! My hifi equipment has cost me a lot of money over the years and I know that the awful sound quality is down to the recording, not my system.
However, all was not lost - I flicked over to the DVD and played the set list there and found the sound was great! It just means, therefore, that this album will not get the listening time it deserves as I cannot be listening to the CD in the car with such poor sound differentiation!
All in all, bearing in mind the price, this is not a bad package, but, without the DVD, this would have ranked no better than 3 stars at a push - if they could have got the sound right on the CD (the very reason why I purchased this album in the first place), it could have been the full 5 stars
For the money, its excellent value, worth buying for the DVD alone, the CD is a bonus.
Part with your hard earned cash, put the DVD on extra loud and transform your living room into the live arena - absolutely brilliant!
From opening rocker "Come To Life" to a wonderful acoustic performance of "Watch Over You" Alter Bridge deliver a stunning set from start to finish.
I've owned the NTSC version of this DVD for a while and have never seen four musicians perform so superbly.
It's such a shame that Alter Bridge are not very well known in the UK, their music rocks hard and Myles Kennedy is one of the best male rock vocalists.
Of course the other members have recently reunited with Scott Stapp and are touring as Creed, Alter Bridge stayed true to their word though and released ABIII in October 2010, to universal critical acclaim.
(None of the songs on that album feature on this DVD, this concert was recorded in 2008)
Ps. a special mention too for the support act "Logan," I have seen them live a couple of times before and they are excellent, very deserving of their own record deal.
You can pick up their latest CD "The Great Unknown" here on Amazon.
Anyhow, I bought this live package and watched the DVD and was really impressed and fully enjoyed it. Unfortunately I dont manage to find the time to watch live dvds very much so the added CD disc was a great bonus but strangely, the CD quality was nowhere near that of the DVD, the sound is just really off the mark. The great riffs that I enjoy immensely on the studio albums are just totally lost on the cd and just sound like a wall of noise. Shame
Overall, if you liked the alter bridge albums, I recommend this as the DVD is great.
Cant wait to see them live for real at Download!!
This is really worth buying if you like them, whether you have seen them live already or not. In terms of quality both vocally and instrumentally they are at least as good live as in a studio, which in a world with so much manufactured pop is very refreshing.
