HASH(0x9244ce34) out of 5 stars Bluegrass Classic! 31 July 2011

My folks bought this album when I was a kid and I guess it really made an impression as I still (can't believe it!) remembered every word to every song, and the funnies in between.

I got such a kick out of hearing it again that I gave the CD to my folks, too, and they really enjoyed the trip to memory lane.

"There is a Time" still makes me cry, especially when Charlene sang it on Andy Griffith. But it's a good cry. Thanks.

HASH(0x92450780) out of 5 stars Comedy-Grass!! 14 Jan. 2011

Before Steve Martin, there was Mitch Jayne and The Dillards! I had seen them on "The Andy Griffith Show", but I had no idea how funny The Dillards are. This shows that Andy Griffith wasn't the only one with a funnybone! Especially the jokes in "Old Blue", "The Whole World 'Round" and "Pretty Polly"! If you're looking to buy the best of The Dillards, buy this one!

HASH(0x9244dc30) out of 5 stars Classic Dillards worth listening to. 6 Oct. 2013

I have always enjoyed the Dillards' style of country/blue grass and this album is no exception. I found this live concert album to be real joy to listen to and overall the flow was fantastic.

So why only four stars? I was less than enthusiastic about the quality of the sound. It seemed to me that some of the instrumental music was awfully flat sounding. I might stress that this is only my opinion and that the songs were great, just the sound seemed off.

This is the 'Boys at their best. Bassist Mitch Jayne, in his stage roll as host, is as funny as any stand-up. The playing is top notch, as is the recording quality. Mecca Club, Los Angeles, 1964. Incredible...
