When Kate receives a phone-call in the middle of the night informing her that her younger sister, Anya is missing in Mexico of all places - Kate's happy life is sent in to turmoil. Trying desperately to find a way to locate Anya 'before it's too late' is all Kate can focus on. Meanwhile, Anya is in Mexico. In a place no one would ever think to find her. And fighting for her life with every breath.
As a sister myself, I really felt the emotions Kate and Anya went through and found both accounts
from the sisters' touching. This is told from Anya, Kate and sometimes Will's (Anya's best friend) perspective - All I would say on that note is I would like it to have been set out a little clearer RE: Who is talking when. It wasn't headed or split in to chapters so you had to concentrate.
A great read - unique and enjoyable.
Little Sister opens with a Prologue in which Anya is travelling in a truck with a handsome man towards adventure. Wild and free, Anya has spontaneously gone on holiday and is about to go diving with an instructor, Rafa. We are then transported to a few days later in England. It is one am, and Kate's mobile rings, waking her and her husband Rob. A man on the other end of the phone tells Kate that he is ringing from Mexico and that there has been an incident. Police have recovered her sister Anya's clothes near a poolside in a deserted area of Mexico, and not only that, but she was last seen getting into a vehicle with a man and he is also missing. All of a sudden, the race is on, and Kate must find her younger sister before it is too late.
Wow is all I have to say about this story. Just wow. As soon as I read the first page i was hooked, and by the start of the second chapter I desperately felt for Kate and wanted to reach out to her. I felt myself channelling her emotions, I personally had an awful feeling in my stomach as I read about how the police had found Anya's clothes and I felt Kate's pain and heartache reflected in my own emotions.I read this story very quickly, from the start i was physically unable to put it down and raced through it, hoping with Kate that Anya would turn up.
Lucy Dawson has done a wonderful job of creating believable, relatable characters that we take right into our hearts and souls. The story is written from three different people's perspectives, one of them being Kate's. I really liked this style of writing as I honestly felt like I was in Kate's mind, seeing what she was seeing, and feeling the same motions as the ones she was going through. It was the perfect way to write a story of this subject, it really drew me in that much more, made the story more personal to me, and allowed me to be involved with the characters and the scenes. Kate in particular was a very well-written character, I also very much liked the character of Will. Although he does not feature as much as others, I liked the role he played and I felt protective over his character, I really wanted the best for him.
I want to say that I would compare this story with that of Rosamund Lupton's Sister, and given the phenomenal success that Sister has had, I'm sure Lucy Dawson's novel will be a big hit! I'd say if you enjoyed Rosamund Lupton's novel then you will LOVE this. In fact, I hope this book has similar success because it is truly deserved. I am VERY excited to see what Lucy brings us next! Lucy Dawson has created a dark, deep, fast-paced novel that has many layers to it. It will draw you straight in and keep you filled with suspense as you race through every page, desperate to know what happens next. Gripping, truly gripping.
