Emily Gravett was born in Brighton. She left school with few qualifications and spent 8 years living on the road (in a variety of vehicles including a truck, caravan and RAF petrol bus called Toby Diesel) before settling back in Brighton and getting a place on the BA(Hons) Illustration course at Brighton University.

Her first picture book WOLVES was published in August 2005 to great acclaim, winning the CILIP Kate Greenaway Medal and a clutch of other awards it marked the beginning of a stellar career creating extraordinary books for children.

Emily has also won the Best Emerging Illustrator Award at the Booktrust Early Years Awards for MONKEY AND ME and the bronze award in the 6-8 age category at the Nestle Children's Book Prize for LITTLE MOUSE'S BIG BOOK OF FEARS. In 2008 Emily was awarded the rare honour of a second CILIP Kate Greenaway Medal for LITTLE MOUSE'S BIG BOOK OF FEARS.

Emily lives in Brighton with her family and their dog, Dilys.

I really love this book. It is just delightful from start to finish.It will have readers of all ages enthralled and covers so many areas.
The first really appealing thing about it is the details- with cut out maps , newspaper cuttings, handwritten scribbles and pop ups you dont know what each page will hold. You really go on a journey with poor little mouse- finding out about all different types of fears- which allow kids to explore their own. Its an ideal book for kids to read on their own or with adults.
The drawings are lovely and you really feel like you have found mouses handwritten journal.Its also a great stepping stone for kids to create their own fear diaries .
I am a childrens counsellor and love this book- even as a 36 adult I find it delightful and would recommend it to everyone.
Just make sure you buy the hardback version for all the extra touches. You can read it again and again as there is so much detail you will always find something new. One of the best books out their.

I purchased this book for my class after a visit from Emily Gravett back in April. She was great and introduced her favourite books to the kids. I gave them the choice of which one they could have and they all said Little Mouse's Big Book of Fears. They loved the fact that the 'hidden meaning' is that they are all Emily's fears and could relate to most of them. It has been great to use with specific children to identify their own personal fears and worries. We've even made up words for their own fears (monsterunderbedophobia) which they loved. All in all it is a great book; there isn't a lot of writing which leaves it open for discussion and the illustrations and fold up pages are fantastic! I would wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone.

I baught this book for a graphics project in college, and loved it so much that it is now on my bookshelf! It's such a funny little book, the entire thing is very interactive with lots of pull-out pictures, flaps and holes leading to other pages. Even the little things in the book, such as the pencil the mouse carries getting shorter as the pages going along, as it nibbles through nervousness, are very fun. Gravett uses a variety of mediums from pencil scribbles to scanning feathers and images onto the pages. I reccomend this book to both adults and children alike, its just so much fun! :) When i have kids they're definatly going to have a ton of Gravetts books on their shelves, but not just for them to read! :)

This fascinating book made me laugh throughout, and was well appreciated by teachers in Key Stage 2 and children alike. Will be a great resource for Literacy, looking at a range of genres from recount to traditional rhymes and tales as well as using in SEAL/PSHE when exploring worries and anxieties. The layout is creative and appealing, and the map of the Isle of Fright could also inspire maths and geography work.
OR, it's just a really enjoyable children's book, to read and re read at home!
