Peggy GuggenheimPeggy's family were world famous for art collecting, but Peggy didn't join the art world until she was 39. But she flourished amongst the artists when she moved to Paris, and opened her very own gallery in 1938 in London. When the regime started to destroy all modern art they disliked, so Peggy worked hard to smuggle as many paintings as possible out of France to protect them. She championed new artists, especially female artists. Her palazzo in Venice, is still one of the most important museums in Italy. |
Frida KahloFrida's paintings are known for its vivid bright colours. But she used her pain to make beautiful, bright art. She painted everything she saw and felt. She even painted from bed after she was in a bus accident. She is one of the most celebrated artists of all time, and her self portraits are still iconic. |
Zaha HadidWhen she was just eleven, Zaha knew she wanted to design buildings. She moved from Iraq to the UK to study architecture, and was famous for her dynamic sculptural forms and her bold approach. She designed the Aquatics Centre for the London Olympics and was the first woman to win the most prestigious prize in architecture. |
Ada LovelaceAda was born in 1815, but because of her mathematical genius is widely considered one of the first computer programmers! She was the daughter of famous poet Lord Byron, but her hard work and dedication to mathematics has made her famous in her own right. |

I'm afraid I had not heard of all these people as the book ensures it does not just focus on Europeans or Americans, but it does not include Emmaline Pankhurst which was a surprise.
