I would highly recommend Little Jack Potato and the Froobles series to assist in teaching children important values, which are told in a really colourful and imaginative way. The book charts Jack playing lots of tricks (scaring his friends, loosening a wheel on a roller skate) before finally getting his comeuppance when his friends surprise him with the classic cream pie in the face. It's a very entertaining story, and Jack learns the very crucial lesson that you should treat others how you want to be treated.
The age range is for 2 years up, so the dialogue is not overly complex. Its a good book for little ones to enjoy the pictures, but also a good book to help children gain some confidence in reading aloud.
I really like the premise that the scene a Frooble story takes place in, is one that children have created. At the beginning of each book, you are greeted with an empty scene, with child-like pictures surrounding it. It's a nice concept that as soon as the children leave their drawings to go outside and play, the Froobles come to life! Each story takes place in a different setting (Little Jack Potato takes place in a park) so the settings across the entire series are vibrantly varied.
Ultimately, there are not many books out there that have a potato protagonist wearing a bow tie and a trilby. Any book that does has my resounding support.
