This is a superb review of knitting for the beginner, or like me ,a born again knitter. I'm sure knitting is becoming fashionable again. Baking and cooking cannot be done in the armchair. Creation of knitwear can be done whilst listening, watching or deafing-out on media forms to relax. 'A Little Course in Knitting' is a simple guide with illustrations of the basic techniques that start from the wools and needles, patterns, stitches with a realistic view of goals. This contains the ingredients of a potential life-time of enjoyment and skill. Relatives beware of the outcome! I cannot recommend this book more highly. After 50 years and with the aid of other incentives, this is the book to encourage and stimulate a creative activity.

I brought this book as it looked very good and I wanted to learn how to knit. Good clear instructions and really good photo's except I then found it was an abridged copy of The Knitting Book by Vikki Haffenden & Frederica Patmore. Both books from the same publisher and the abridged was written by Susie Johns, which is weird as the words are exactly the same - so who wrote it? The Knitting Book is a much better book has more info and patterns. If you are looking to buy a book on knitting I would recommend the Knitting Book by Vikki Haffenden & Frederica Patmore. I wish publishers would not release the same book with a different title, at least if the author was the same the buyer/reader would better informed to make a choice.

Prior to buying this book, I had little experience of knitting, beyond attempting to create a basic strip of fabric using garter stitch. I looked into various options to teach myself before finally settling on this book, which quickly proved itself to be an incredibly useful teaching tool. As a complete beginner, I really appreciated the way that the book started at a basic level, assuming no prior knowledge, and then gradually increased the difficulty of the techniques explained. The book's clear images and step-by-step instructions were easy to understand and helped me gain confidence in using a wide range of techniques. I also enjoyed attempting the simple patterns included at various stages of the book, as they allowed me to use my newfound skills within projects. Thanks to this this book, I now feel that I am a far more competent knitter and I am able to confidently use the techniques I have learnt to complete a wide variety of projects. I now use this book as a reference guide, which I can refer back to whenever I need assistance. Highly recommended for both complete beginners and more experienced knitters!

This book for me has been a journey, taking me from i can knit and purl and knit a simple scarf to i can now knit with more confidence! The title states it's a little course in knitting, but there is a huge amount of patterns, information, practice pieces you can try out. The book starts off with basics such as how to knit and purl, increasing and decreasing and leads you up to more advanced knitting, such as cabling. After each chapter, there are projects you can try. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is learning or who wants to learn to knit.

As someone who could knit but hasn`t for a long time and was never proficient this book is perfect. The pictures are bright and attractive and the instructions are clear and easy to follow. Just started the first project and am enjoying the immediate success. The photographs make the book interesting just to look through and the layout is well designed as you would expect from DK.

I taught my grand-daughter to knit & bought this book for her to encourage her to do more. I liked the clear instructions & pictures & although I have been knitting for years realised I could learn alot from it, so bought another copy for myself.
