Review

"The best book has to be, no, not some guide to far-off Shangri-Las but right here at home. Allan Foster's The Literary Traveller in Edinburgh is the comprehensive literary sightseeing guide to the first World City of Literature. Beat that." (Scottish Sunday Herald)

"a sparky guide to celebrate Edinburgh's elevation to the world's first city of literature. Among the nuggets, gossip, opening hours and further reading is the eclectic: individual histories of bookshops; laments for Milne's Bar, ruined by refurbishment; streets where the famous and the fictional lived; well-rehearsed history and good gardens to read in. The best bit is the collection of quotes about the city..." (The Glasgow Herald)

"One of the best books about the city published in many a long day (Scottish Books of the Year)" (Tom Kyle Scottish Daily Mail)

"The perfect companion for amblings around Edinburgh" (In Britain)

This book should be in everyone's collection. It is very well written and gives very informative snippets of information about every important lierary aspect of the amazing city of Edinburgh.

I bought this book before visiting Edinburgh, with this book under my arm my visit was so much more worth while. Without this book I would not have realised the huge diversity of literary connections in Edinburgh.

If you get the chance to visit Edinburgh and see the literary sights for yourself then I would definately recommend going on 'The Book Lovers' tour'. The author Allan Foster will take around the literary sights giving you a very knowledgable insight into everywhere he takes you. The experience is unforgettable. It is a must for all book lovers!!! There is no need to book for the tours just turn up outside the Writer's Museum (just off the High Street) at 10.30am or 1.30pm every Saturday and Sunday (every day through the Edinburgh festival).

Love this book - easy to dip into and small enough to carry around. Got mine from Amazon at half the price in the shops - bought a used one which is in brilliant condition. Lots of little snippets about the good and the great from Scotland's literary past.
