On first hearing, I quite liked this album although I have to say after plenty of listens to it now, it's nowhere near as good as their older stuff. I like how The Kooks are now experimenting trying different instruments, but I find most of the songs on this quite average. See Me Now, Around Town and Bad Habit are decent, but that's about it really. Having said this, I saw them live at Leeds Fest 2014, and they are really good live, lots of energy and the atmosphere was electric.

I'm torn. I want to really like this album but it just doesn't QUITE cut it for me. I've only had 2 listen throughs so far. I gotta say, I like this album, it's good but it just doesn't feel right for the Kooks, it's very "pop" and that's not the reason I love the Kooks. None of the songs with an exception of 1 or 2 seem to strike me as hard as some of their old stuff.

Overall... better then Junk Of The Heart. Nothing on the first 2.

Original, thumping, experimental, a honour to have produced the artwork for this album and the accompanying single releases.

I still prize my copies of The Kooks' first two studio albums especially, and I admit that it did take some time for me to enjoy their fourth, released last year. I was initially disappointed upon the first few hearings, but 'Listen' is a grower, despite the fact I'll never hold it in the same regard as the old stuff.

These indie-rockers from Brighten have certainly evolved, and started to experiment. 'Listen' is certainly different to what we've come to expect from these boys over the past decade, and the first project to not only feature the band's new drummer Alex Nunez, but the first not to have Tony Hoffer as producer. There are lots of music genres that The Kooks have never ventured into before, including jazz, gospel and R+B, making it much more varied and experimental, which I respect, but like I said, I don't think it will ever be regarded as their final hour, or at least not from me.

Ultimately, this is a fun pop album with more than enough tunes to make you want to get up and dance, but soon forget about them. The track 'Westside' is a pleasant piano ballad, and 'See Me Now' is a very touching tribute to the father of The Kooks' frontman Luke Pritchard's father, who passed away last year. In short, 'Listen' is a perfectly enjoyable pop record, and had it been released by a new indie band, I might be viewing it very differently, but a band like The Kooks are better than this. It'll probably divide the fans, but is unlikely to win over many new ones. 3.5 Stars.

Like most albums I find that I have to listen to it several times before I can truly judge an album. Every time I listened to it I liked it more and more. It is different, but that isn't a bad thing, I love their older stuff but if bands don't change their sound then they become bland and repetitive. 'Listen' still has the recognizable Kooks, riffs, hooks and catchy chorus' but they have also infused Funk and even some Gospel into the classic Indie that of their former albums.
