Liquid & Ash was my first EM Abel book and I loved it.

This book was spilt into two parts. In the first part we meet Penelope a woman who is at a crossroads in her life, after spending the last ten years of her life trying to be exactly who her husband Derek wanted her to be. Penelope is lost trying to find herself, whilst in a state of depression, she gave up everything to be with Derek.

So when she learns Derek has been cheating on her, she turns to pills, weed and alcohol. This phase of her life helps her realise what she needs to do to find herself again, Derek is no longer the man she thought he was and she's out to find herself again.

We see some reflection of Penelope's life with Derek before the end of their relationship,We see the signs of her journey from who she was and where she was to who and where she is now.

Part two, we see Penelope adjust to life after Derek, she's standing on her own feet helping her to find her way in life, she's got her own place, a job and is saving to realise her dream of becoming nurse. So when Penelope runs into Brandon Cain a hot tattooed, bearded bad boy bar tender, who used sell her weed.

Penelope never envisioned someone like him would be into her, but the more time she spends time with him the more she learns that she can be herself with Brandon. Her and Brandon's relationship is much different to the one with Derek, they agree to "no promises and no pretending".

You can't help but connect with Penelope and see how much she changes her life for the better and for herself, after so much healing and heartbreak. You'd think Brandon would be the perfect rebound guy, but he is more than that, he helps her become herself again, but in return she helped Brandon too.

A beautiful story of a Woman who loses herself in her marriage and fights to find who she is again.
Liquid and Ash is an emotional and at times heartbreaking story. It really tugged on my heartstrings and at times hit close to home. It really gets to your feels. I loved every minute of this book.
E.M. has told this story beautifully, with a strong and courageous heroin in Penny and Brandon a worthy hero who's very aware of who he is and what he's capable of giving. Two people who have been hurt so much in life, that it's had a ripple effect on the choices they make.....will these choices tear them apart or bring them together?

Liquid and Ash by E.M.Abel, my second book by this author, and I LOVED it!

There was Romance, adultery and a very sexy hot male in Brandon but there was also sacrifice, hurt and addiction.

Penelope married Derek young, she sacrifices her dream of becoming a nurse to be Derek's 'perfect wife'. Years later after finding out he has had an affair, smoking weed, prescription medication and drink is her daily ritual. Penelope resents Derek, not only for cheating on her but for all she has forfeited for him and at thirty, she finds herself working hard to try and achieve her dreams.
Brandon, the hot ex marine bartender/drug dealer is introduced to Penelope through their mutual friend Tiffany. Penelope lacks confidence, there is fear in her eyes every time Brandon goes outside her comfort zone and she runs.
This is an amazing book, a book of trusting the right people and being brave enough to let go and follow your heart.
I couldn't put it down!

This standalone novel follows Penelope Baylor, a bored and depressed military housewife. Her husband Derek, who she met in college and married while young and naïve, has cheated on her and so she uses alcohol, pills and weed to escape the pain and heartache she feels as she realises what a catastrophe her life has become at the tender age of thirty. She sacrificed everything – her dreams, her choice in career and her family – to be the perfect wife for Major Derek and clearly she wasn’t good enough.

Enter drug dealer and bartender Brandon Cain – the mysterious, tattooed bad boy with the blonde hair, neatly trimmed beard, extremely drool worthy body and the most crystal blue eyes that Penny has ever seen. Introduced by their mutual friend Tiffany, scared and timid Penny cannot keep away from Brandon and the feelings he stirs in her (and the weed he supplies her with). She feels she can be herself around him and maybe try and piece her life – and her shattered heart – back together.

I truly loved this story. Penny lacks so much confidence despite her figure and good looks. She has been stripped of her true self by dedicating her life into becoming the perfect woman for her dick of a husband. Although as the story progresses I do actually feel sorry for Derek and the situation he finds himself in (I know not many will feel the same). Brandon never professes to be a knight in shining armour – in fact he says just the opposite but you cannot help but think that this is exactly what he does for Penny. He saves her in more ways than one. Her confidence blossoms and the fear she once had at being alone begins to dissolve.
