Recorded on the Dallas date of the 2003 "Summer Sanitarium" arena tour, with Metallica, Limp Bizkit et al, Live in Texas is a concise, no-frills two-disc DVD/CD souvenir of the muscular Linkin Park live experience. 5.1 Surround Sound captures every nuance of Brad Delson's explosive guitar, the incendiary turntable flourishes of DJ Joseph Hahn, and the interplay between MC Mike Shinoda and singer Chester Bennington (although the audience singalong on "Numb" gets lost across the barricades), as the sextet runs through a tight set of selections drawn exclusively from its bestsellers Hybrid Theory and Meteora, with the big hits ("Crawling," "In the End") programmed toward the climax. Casual fans may grumble about the absence of extras--there's no backstage-with-the-band documentary or viewing angle options, no previously unreleased songs--but hardcore devotees (who get plenty of face time on the DVD) should appreciate the opportunity to revisit the thrills of Linkin Park in concert whenever they wish. --Kurt B Reighley

THe DVD's great showing how the lad's can work the crowd and keep you pumping the air and begging for more. It's a good set taken from two gigs in Houston and Dallas, the crowd are enthusastic and loving it which just adds to the atmosphere. Good play list featuring all teh biggest and best tracks some of them reworked in the reanimator mould.
The CD features a shorter play list guaranteed to stay in the car cd-player on continuous for the rest of the month at least.
Top notch packagin too, booklet includes some good pictures of the guys in action for those of you who like that kinda thing
Why not 5 stars? well there's no extra's on the dvd, no multiple angles or documentarys like on the Metallica DVD's but to be honest thats a minor point and the only thing i can come up with and i'm really picking hairs, you only watch that stuff once anyway and the actual gig is AWESOME, so really its more like a 4 1/2 than a 4.
So buy it, BUY IT NOW it is BRILLIANT, your eyes and ears will LOVE YOU. i've had it a day and i've not stopped watching it
...oh and LINKIN PARK RULE
For anyone who is a huge Linkin Park fan this CD and particulary the DVD is a must buy. There's 68 minutes of footage from the Texas leg of their 2003 Summer Sanitarium Tour. 17 songs covering their 3 studio albums 'Hybrid Theory', 'Reanimation' and 'Meterora' are belted out to a huge crowd who join in singing, and if you've ever been to a Linkin Park gig yourself will remind you of the true spirit that goes with such an occasion.
There is occasional backstage footage in between songs, and it's a shame there's not more on a seperate featurette, but we have to remember this DVD is essentially a free gift with the CD. The show itself more than makes up for any special features.
There are 2 sound options - Stereo and Dolby Digital 5.1 which sounds truely amazing and is still quite unusual for a music DVD to have 5.1.
This CD/DVD set is excellent value for money and I cannot recommend it highly enough for every Linkin Park fan out there.
having been a fan from the early days, and being deeply naffed off with the dead-pan ham and spam festival DVD (fans will know what i mean) at last - a DVD worthy of their creative talents.
having seen them live a couple of times i can safely say that the DVD captures the spirit of an LP bash, despite the John Woo style slo-motion from time to time.
reason for 4 stars and not 5 ?
excluding the track "my december" (which when played out live just makes you shed a tear, chester's true talent springs forth) from a live set, when many old school fans love this track to me is a devilishly frustrating omission.
despite this minor whine, this pack rocks !
This collection has a CD with 12 songs on it cut from the 2 concerts and a DVD with 17 songs. The CD gives you the concert experience but has less tracks so you don't get so much quantity but you definitely get quality. The concert DVD is a must-see for any Linkin Park fan. It's a great concert where they express their raw talent and expose themselves in all their glory. I enjoyed seeing Mike take to the guitar which isn't something he's famous for. The concert runs for 1 hour and 8 minutes compared to the CD which as another user has said is just under 42 minutes long, with 5 tracks omitted. The DVD although being a brilliant watch with great footage could have been better. It begins with the band preparing to walk onto the stage for the concert and ends with the band walking off and getting on a buggy, driving away. The only thing I am not a big fan of is the slow-motion captures which occurs throughout the DVD while they are performing. It makes for a cinematic experience but it impairs the real live concert experience because it's clear that what you're watching has been recorded and tinkered with.Read more ›

The music is brilliant, but being able to see the guys do their stuff in a reasonably early gig makes this a premium purchase.Published on 29 Nov. 2013 by once
