This effect box + amplifier reproducer is at its best providing all kinds of distortion variations. Then again, once you sit down with it, and manually control its settings (i.e. over-rde the pre-sets) it also contains a nice collection of more subtle effects.
It is so good that I've given away my big Fender guitar amp, and now only play through this (hooked up to speakers if necessary).

Poor build Quality

Don't be fooled by the metal chasis on the line 6 POD range of amp modellors.
This is not a sturdy unit - it's not designed to last
After one (and only one) minor accident the input jack sheared off.
I opened the unit up to have a closer look at the issue.
I was shocked to see how poor the build quality was.
None of the input ports was bolted or screwed to the chasis.
They were soldered to the the PCB and that's it, looks like it was designed to fail from the drawing board.
I've bought cheap accesories before, with plastic cases and plastic bolts.
I've never seen an instrument or accessory before that did not have any stress releif mechnism designed in.
i'll be stearing clear of line 6 products in future

I have had one of these now for some time. I am not one of these that has to update to a brand new model or something similar, everytime a new unit appears.

In this unit you have everything your going to need. If you don't have an amp no problems just use the outputs on the top left side. I use two 1/4" jack plugs which have two RCA connections at the other end and connect these to my HiFi. Just check your own set up first. If you do have an amp well sling it in the corner because you won't be needing it. There is massive amounts of effects, different kinds of amps to choose from plus you can have an open back or a closed back amp just by selecting the black slider on the left of the unit.

Tuner comes in handy although on mine when i first purchased it the Tuner was way out but that is no problem as you can reset it. I also use an FBV shortboard Pedal which has Wah control and its as good as any. The noise gate on this unit is ok but i use Boss NS-2 Noise Supressor Pedal
Now the critical part.
Be very careful where your unit is placed make sure it is not on a surface from where it will fall. The case of this thing is tough aluminium and will not break. Although i don't recommend throwing this around.
Those black knobs around the outside, the two front ones are the ones you need to be aware of as these may just break off if this unit falls on the floor as the stalks which these switches are mounted on are plastic.
The others are on metal stalks so chances are you won't break them.
You can purchase a stand for this which will easily mount ontop a microphone stand, or will sit at an angle on your desk, but just take note of the above.

If you like me don't have a sound proof room at home for recording this is a great little machine. It's so easy to use and you can get a brilliant sound out of it. Ideally I would just mic up my cab however I would probably have the police round with complaints from the neighbours, or I would need to sound proof my room which would cost far too much. So if you want to opt for the cheaper solution go for this. There are loads of presets you can get online from people who have found brilliant sounds out there which is also really good.

small enough to stuff in a gig bag. stop carting an amp about. plenty of tasty sounds. plugs int' PA or even a stereo. I use mine with headphones at 3 am so the neighbors dont murder me. had it for about 6 years now. i treat it like crap. chuck it in my bag, never clean it, spill wine on it etc. still going strong. ( will only work with its original power supply so dont buy one without )

I have an early POD 2 with a v2.3 firmware upgrade, the current firmware is 2.54. This has always sounded better than the BOSS effects board that I had, whether it's plugged into a modified valve Fender Champ or a MOSFET amp driving a Line 6 12" speaker. The POD Settings Bible is a good place to get to know settings.

There are some good sound samples of the POD 2; try Googling podsettings and watch the video - I'd like to know what Strat' pick ups the guy is using!
