I bought 2 of these for my home when my little lad was 8 months old and crawling. They are really easy to fit and adjust up, the instructions were clear and came with an easy to use template to drill the holes in the wall/door frames. Once installed they are very secure, I can't see my lad working out how to open them for a while as yet. Overall much more secure than a pressure fit gate, they swing out of the way so nothing is left in the door opening to trip over and they can also easily be removed from their hinges and reinstalled again if you only need them every now and again. Very pleased with them and will highly recommend them.

Having seen the poor review for this gate, i was spurred into action.

I bought 2 Lindam gates, an easy fit plus and an extending metal. My friends advised me never to put a pressure gate at the top of the stairs. So i got an extening one. It was well packaged and simple to fit. It required a few screws to fit but the job was pretty simple.

The main deciding factor was that the nursery my daughter goes to uses these gates through the whole building, and have never had any issues. I should imagine this would be the harshest environment for any gate.

I bought four of these stair-gates / barriers. I believe the hinge design has changed very slightly since the version which may have altered the fitting process but otherwise the current product looks identical. We bought these to separate rooms without closing the doors - for ventilation, light & sound to pass around our apartment - we have no stairs to protect but the instructions for fitting them to stairways seemed clear enough.

The major advantage of this design is that it has an excellent range of width fittings - far more than most other products we looked at. As we live in a building with non-standard measurements these were a sure fit in the gaps we wanted to block. The gates come with a template to cut out & fix to the wall to aid alignment of the hinges & catches. Nice idea. I only used the template for the hinge side and then aligned the catches by eye, but the whole process from opening the box to having the gate fitted took me 15-20 minutes and I was in no rush. You'll need to check whether the wall is suitable for drilling & supporting the weight of the gate. In my case it was wooden door frames so the included woodscrews were sufficient.

You then need to adjust the bolts connecting the hinges & catches to get a good fit that allows the gate to swing naturally and clip into the catch each time. This takes a bit of fiddling around but isn't difficult.

The gates have been fitted for nearly a month now and we find them easy to open & close one-handed but our 18 month old is safely contained. She tends to climb onto the bars and the fixtures have taken her weight without problem. They look tidy & are much easier to use than some of the quick fix gates we've seen.

Bought this to stop my small dogs going upstairs. I found it quit easy to fit, a bit fiddly when adjusting, but I am in no way a DIY expert. For the price you really can't go wrong, it's a sturdy piece of equipment. Dogs can't get through bar spaces approx 6cm.
Hope you have found this useful.

This was bought to prevent our dogs chewing the mail and escaping through the front door when bringing the shopping in. It was cheaper than a suitable mail cage and more useful as it now provides an 'airlock' for the front door. Of course if your baby is getting to the post before you and tearing it to bits with their teeth then they're more advanced than you realised and this gate isn't going to stop them.

The instructions are clear and it is easy to fit although I had to modify another one the same to accommodate skirting boards on both sides of a narrower opening elsewhere in the house. Once fitted it is simple to use and the only problem we have encountered is our teenage/adult sons forgetting to close it and leaving the front door open thereby defeating the object. That said they also leave lights on, dirty plates on top of the dishwasher, wet towels on the floor and homework/study far too late.

As we get old enough to consider grandchildren (my brother's got one and I want one) hopefully they can be used for their intended purpose. Recommended

Some years ago, when my first grandchild came to stay for the first time, I purchased one of these gates and was most impressed with its simplicity of use and ease of removal from the hinge brackets when it wasn't required, as I remove the gate when my grandchildren are not visiting. That gate would have had five stars!

Recently I needed a second gate and, because I had been very pleased with the first gate, purchased another one. However, the design of the hinges and catches has changed considerably. The new hinge brackets are not so robust nor so secure on the wall as the earlier model and, instead of just lifting the gate away from the brackets as before, the gate has to be forcibly withdrawn from the brackets and then forcibly inserted to replace it. It seems to me that it won't be long before one of the brackets comes away with the gate!

One improvement is the placing of plastic buttons on the bolts that engage with the catches at the open end of the gate. However, as the gates are normally closed when children are about, the buttons do not seem to add much to safety.

I emailed Lindam to ask if I could purchase a set of the old style hinges and was told:

"The design of our gates have (sic) changed to comply to new regulations. The gate you have recently purchased is our current gate. We do supply the full fixing kits for our current gates but not the older design."

I wish that I had shopped around and checked the fixing system before buying.

UPDATE December 2011: Having used the gate several times, I find that the top bracket is pulling away from the wall. I used exactly the same size of drill, screws and wall plugs as I had used to fit the earlier model.
