There is no-one else like Linc, not physically anyway. He sees people around him in his own unique way as different coloured auros depending on their own character. In Lincs mind each one is as different as we see each other. He learns to communicate through telepathy but chooses carefully the people he does this with, as once this path is opened it can't be closed.
Linc has power which grows and develops with him and it isn't always easy to control. He develops a close circle of friends that see Linc for who he is , a boy and later a teenager not something to be avoided and stared at.
Linc always tries so hard to do the right thing but unfortunately when he gets things wrong it can be disastrous. I really loved his connection with animals in this novel and the simplicity of their needs.
The characters in this book around Linc, family friends and enemies have a totally real feel about them. Their worries stresses and love.
A brilliant book. I won't forget this book in a hurry. Linc will stay with me I believe for a very long time.
The central character is a young boy born without any facial features except two small nostrils through which he is able to breath and take in liquid food via a tube. He does however have strong physic powers such as being able to see in perfect detail via auras despite having no eyes, being able to talk to animals and connect and communicate internally with those close to him. With a small group of friends, one being a very attractive classmate with a troubled past, he meets a lot of prejudice and has various "adventures" which become increasingly violent.
I very much liked the idea behind the book and there was some interesting points about how people react to what they fear and the dangers of reading minds and fully experiencing other people's emotions.
From the outset the author was asking for a suspension of reality and there were moments I was happy to go along with it. But I wasn't sufficiently immersed into the story to sustain this throughout the read.
An interesting but not wholly convincing read.
Whilst I did enjoy this book, it was slightly spoiled by the lack of reaction to Linc's abilities, for example, I am sure that if a boy without any eyes managed to qualify for the school team at football, then the newspapers would be all over it and he would become a subject of national interest.
However perhaps the biggest message of this book is that you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover, always a good lesson to remember.
The main character first has our sympathy and then our jealousy and these feelings keep changing. The ending is hinted at throughout so no great surprise although you know it's coming you don't want it to arrive.
I gave the book 5 stars as it isn't my normal choice of literature and I quite often get distracted away from this genre but not Blank it kept my attention to the very last page.
The only downside....but too much American football for me especially as I have no idea what that game is like.
This is the story of Lincoln "Linc" Delabar, or as some call him Blank. He was born without a face. No mouth or eyes, just two slits where a nose should be. Linc has special abilities, (very powerful) and he can see things others can not. Will he be able to control his "gift" or will he use what he was born with for evil purposes? Will he find acceptance in a cruel world?
I am a huge fan of Richard C. Hale so I knew I would love this book. Linc is very unique, he has a big heart and has to face the world as a "freak" when inside he feels (and wants to be) normal. It was very easy to like and relate to young Linc. I look forward to more in this series and highly recommend Blank .
