Misery Loves Co. were a great band that never really received the attention or publicity they deserved, and have since split up in 2000.
The fact that the band are on the "Earache" label should already tell you something about them, and with "Not Like Them" they have created a sound to rival the likes of Slipknot, mixing big riffs with more melodic parts as well.
Unlike Slipknot, though, there is quite a gothic sound to the music, as the band also use keyboards throughout the album, giving the songs a very gloomy feel to them. The song content is, as the band's name would suggest, very deep, dark and depressing, so it's quite ironic that listening to the album should be so enjoyable.
They may now have split up, but they have left behind a great album, which you should definitely check out.

This is the predecessor to 'Your Vision Was Never Mine To Share', and is much heavier. It is also less dynamic and more simplistic at times, but with excellent songs such as 'A Million Lies' and 'It's all yours', there is no cause for complaint. Very heavy, very aggressive, very gloomy, and slightly one-dimensional, but still excellent.

This band unfortunately dissapeared at the begining of the 2000's sadly but were a very original one of a kind intense sort of gothic industrial pounding metal band. Always pretty dark, bleak heavy, intense tunes. For fans of Nine Inch Nails, Ministry, Skinny Puppy, Rammstein, Mortis, Korn, similar bands. Cool ,dark, heavy, angry brutal stuff.

HASH(0x977cb744) out of 5 stars A More Organic Direction 24 Nov. 2006

This album is reminiscent of Katatonia's later work. It's a very slow album, with lyrics that are well-written. This album is much more atmospheric than its predecessor--not like black metal, there's actually much less keyboard on this cd than the original, just that the way the guitars and everything work together creates an atmosphere that sounds alot like it's cover looks--a guy standing out in the rain with his head down. Sampled drums from the first cd were completely replaced with a live drummer. This album isn't emo foolery either, it's metal, with close to death metal vocals, but all tastefully done--no cookie monster. If you like godflesh, this album reminds me alot of "Songs of Love and Hate," "A Million Lies" sounds alot like Godflesh. They also have an acoustic track that uses a similar progression and identical rhythm to "Help me I am in Hell" from NIN's Broken. Don't judge by that though, the lyrical content is one step above on all the songs. The slight lack of originality is probably the only reason I give it a 4, though these cd's helped me keep my head on through some tough times because of lyrical quality--Patrick knows depression.

My favorite track... without a doubt, the track "infected."

All their cd's are good at creating an atmosphere. They're also so cheap on amazon, you have NOTHING to lose.

This album is a must buy for those who love death metal music. The music is intense and depressing. MLC is the best metal band on the music scene in a long time. And I also suggest buying their first album, self-titled Misery Loves Co.
