I'll start by saying I don't read a lot of sci-fi so I may have a slightly different perspective on this book than some other readers.

But I must say I was pleasantly surprised and really enjoyed the story.
Once I started reading I just couldn't help but want to continue to find out more of what's actually going on.

And I really liked the setting as well, how you get a feel for how strange this futuristic world is that the main characters Aiyana and Kendra live in. Yet because it's only set a century in the future, it makes sense to still find quite a few references to today's day and age which helped to give it all a familiar touch.

Anyway, if you like a bit of mystery & excitement together with fancy tech in a well told story that keeps unfolding just enough to keep you wanting for more, this book is for you.

On to the next installment!

Book Review: Run Like Hell (The Cassidy Chronicles)

"Run Like Hell" is a science fiction/adventure story set in the not-too distant future. The United States has been broken up through a series of traumatic events and the story's main characters navigate their way through the various nation-states that have come to replace it. The author presents likable characters and provides a plausible reason for the book's main protagonist, Cass to be compelled to run for her life. But that's not what gave this book its charm for me. Instead, it was the matter-of-fact/this-is-every-day-for-us manner in which the technology and the environment are presented to the reader. That, and the social changes that have occurred. "Run" is a light, well written book, which moves as fast as its characters do, and will leave the reader wondering what will happen next. Intending to find out, I have already purchased the next work in the series, "A Deadly Quest (The Cassidy Chronicles)"
3.0 out of 5 stars Not all there 23 Feb. 2013

I enjoyed the read, lots of action, but it ended very abruptly. I'm seeing this as a growing trend and it disturbs me. When I buy a book, I expect a complete story arc. Not half of one. I'd be willing to have paid more for a book that held the whole story. I also don't mind leaving loose ends that cry out for a sequel, pulling me on to the next arc in a character's story. But cutting a novel up into novella chunks to sell more books is just not working for me. I have no real desire to buy the sequel (which I'm not even sure is out yet) because I'm afraid it will end the same way. Oh, well... no real way to tell until after you're committed to stories like this, sadly.
4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting writing style 11 Feb. 2013

I was given this book in return for an honest review. Basics:This book is set in the future, during Aiyana's wedding the pastor tries to kill her. She goes on the run with her best friend and her boyfriend. Leaving the boyfriend in the dust Aiyana, who is referred to as Cass and Kendra, who is referred to as Ken, go on a quest to not only stay alive but to find out who is trying to kill Cass, and why. This book is written in a very different style then I am used to. I have to say, it was kind of refreshing once I got used to it. It's in the form of a conversation. It's got suspense, mystery, action, comedic moments and keeps you guessing. The characters and the plot were well developed and enjoyable. I enjoyed it and will most definitely check out the next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny Story! 28 Nov. 2012

Awesome story...loved how most of the book was a conversation. Loved Ken and Cass! Liked how even when they were trying to be serious it was still funny i dont think i stopped laughing.

This is a very addictive story about 2 old friends Aiyana Cassidy (Cass) and Kendra Foster-Briggs (Ken) have had an on and off relationship since high school...then college and normal life separated them till they reunited. Cass stared a relationship with a handsome man Derek who she finally brought home to meet Ken and they all feel in love and were at the alter to get married when everything happened...they have to go into hiding to find out who is trying to kill them (Cass).

Awesome story...loved how most of the book was a conversation. Loved Ken and Cass! Liked how even when they were trying to be serious it was still funny i dont think i stopped laughing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast Paced Page-Turner with Witty Repartee 8 Dec. 2012
By J M Leitch - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
Run Like Hell doesn't fall into the weighty adventure scifi type of novel I usually choose - it is also a light hearted futuristic romance - but having said that it's beefed up with good science and is a well constructed and well written book. The main characters are charming and original and dazzle the reader with their quick and witty repartee.

Set 100 years in the future, the book opens with the wedding of two female friends, Kendra (Ken) Foster-Briggs exotic actress and film producer, Aiyana Cassidy (Cass) half Irish/half Native American graduate from MIT with a Doctorate in Optical Engineering, and Derek James, a man of independent means. The only problem is instead of the Reverend marrying them he pulls a gun on them, forcing them to Run Like Hell.

Surviving a second attack the two ladies leave Derek behind and after working out Cass is the target, Ken arranges new identities and a safe place for them both to lay low until they can sort out the mess they find themselves in.

I won't give away any more of the plot but I will say this is a fast paced page-turner and worthy of the 5 stars I have given it.
