Since 1993, Hollywood has been rendering popular video games on the silver screen, mainly to critical derision and box office failure. While a few have succeeded, many have been hailed as the ""worst movie ever"" and left gamers asking: how did that get made? Super Mario fans expecting plumbers jumping on Goombas got an inter-dimensional battle between humans and evolved dinosaurs. Players expecting to see Ryu, Ken, and the rest of the World Warriors compete in the Street Fighter Tournament instead got a live-action GI Joe movie. This in-depth and entertaining work recounts the production histories of many of these movies, revealing the sometimes inspired and convoluted path Hollywood took to turn pixels into living flesh, with insights from over 40 industry insiders, including film directors Paul W S Anderson (Resident Evil), Simon West (Tomb Raider), and Steven de Souza (Street Fighter).

Great Book. You can tell the author worked very hard on this. Enjoyed it very much and will read again some day. Great if you like movies and video games.

Well researched, well written, and incredibly interesting, I'd recommend this book to anyone with any interest in video games or movies.
The only downside for me would be the that none of the most recent video game movies such as Assassin's Creed or Warcraft were included, presumably due to the timing of the release, but if we're lucky we'll see a follow up book dealing with the latest round of adaptions. I'd certainly buy it.

A really enjoyable walk through cinema's failings at bringing the video game world to the big screen, filled with interesting anecdotes and some truly insightful interviews. The author has clearly got a passion for both genres and has spent a huge amount of time finding the right people to speak to. Highly recommend for fans of gaming and/or bad films!

great stories for fans of gaming and movies. Luke Owen is an entertaining read who mostly sticks to the facts here and lets the stories tell themselves. Well researched.

This book goes in-depth with popular video game film adaptations and gives you insider scoop even from the developers themselves, such as the Mortal Kombat and Mario Bros films.

As a fan of Luke I decided to buy the book and I do not regret it. It is a great read to have a better understanding of some of the video games that were made. My only issue was that the book front cover came a little bent (reason for the 4 starts.

I recommend the book.
