Since then I have read every Dean Koontz novel, all of which are brilliant; all of which are worth reading; most of them are of that odd, in-between genre that nobody can put a name to. They are not horror, not fantasy, not science fiction; they are not works of crime or thrillers or detective stories or tales of conspiracy, but they are all of these and more, most of which are worthy of five-star praise.
Dean Koontz is my favourite author, and I love the way he can weave a tale, more so that not every story sticks to a formula that would become boring. It's great that he writes cross-genre too - the reason he explains at the end of the book...and it's wonderful to know that not all authors pursue the bottom line as per instructions of their publishers. He writes for himself and for those readers who do appreciate his respect and realisation that we are indeed not sheep, that we relish difference and stories that make us think.
This story is a mix of science fiction, time travel, murder, mystery, suspense, love, hopes, despair, hate, small minds...the list goes on...with wonderful dialogue, great characters (good and bad) and a tale that will keep the reader in suspense until the very end.
Highly recommended - one of his best.
Its a decent read, I would just really recommend The Watchers to be honest
Dean Koontz is not just an expert in lovable, believable characters but also in setting a pace and building on it - with ever-growing suspense, until you screech to the end, breathless and disappointed that the story ended.
Lightning is difficult to review without spoiling the story, though it is a thriller - with a touch of sci-fi and a romance in a not-quite-horror genre, it must be read to be understood.
