A very fortunate accident introduced me to this film, and wow am I thankful. First class performances by all the caste all the way through, and I'm hard to please. Not wanting to spoil the film for others I wont say much, but it was a revelation. Being British I always thought America looked after its own and was surprised to learn that by being called into service a reservist could leave his family financially worse off. The music is outstanding and Uriah Shelton, the boy who played Henry is so vocally gifted that I'm surprised that I've never heard of him before. This is a film that all the family will enjoy and has found its way into my top five all time favourites.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great movie about a military family's struggle 22 Aug. 2011

As a military veteran and military brat myself, I was looking forward to this movie coming out. It is a movie that displays an ignored subject in our society - the military family and their sacrifices. What most people don't understand in America is that every person in a military family serves this country. Wives, husbands and children of military veterans sacrifice on a daily basis so that we all can live free and in peace. This movie is a great example of the strain and sacrifices that military families experience when their hero has to be away for a long extended period of time or worst pays the ultimate sacrifice of dying. I really enjoyed this movie. It had a great story line and is inspiring. The boy in the movie has a voice like an angel. I always have a soft spot in my heart for military brats. For you civilian fokes, a military brat is a child whose parent serves in the military. Another thing I liked about this movie is that it provided a good example of drug addiction and how an addict struggles on a daily basis to stay sober. Lastly, this film was done at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and the surrounding area. A place dear to my heart and a place that I called home for many years. Great movie!

5.0 out of 5 stars Have the tissue handy. 22 Aug. 2011

The movie has Ruben Studdard, so when I found it listed on On Demand I choose to watch it. There was no warning about how many tears a viewer would shed. Still, the movie is a feel good story about people who, having been tested by fire, find themselves stronger and filled with new purpose.

Wonderful music and a well acted/told story captivated me from the beginning to the end. Familiar sights in Alabama and the local dialect used in the film was nice. I am ordering copies of this movie for myself and family.

5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME movie 4 Sept. 2011

I bought this movie because my brother was in Todd Simpson's band (MOJO child, bass guitar player!!) and he told us about the movie and I ordered it. I received it today. I had a hard time with the acting at first, but let me tell you, by the middle, it was a movie that I will definitely watch again and again. It made me shout out "What!" at one point and from that point on, I was glued to my dvd player and cried!! This is a movie I will tell people about for a long time. Very good and very uplifting. You won't be sorry you bought this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely inspiring, ridiculously good! 29 Jun. 2016

I initially saw this film through Prime, then purchased a personal Blu-Ray copy. An excellent film like this doesn’t come by every day. Excellent acting, excellent story line, excellent inspiration, even if I could tell that they had a limited budget to film it. It doesn’t matter though, this film does not need the gloss nor makeover of Hollywood. It’s that good!

If you are looking for a great family movie, look no further! I highly recommend this movie, especially if you fall into any of the following categories:
(1) You have a family member currently or previously deployed to the war;
(2) You have a family member who has under-recognized musical talent; or
(3) You are often misunderstood by family or schoolmates, and are harassed or bullied because of this misunderstanding.

This film does not offer unrealistic expectations to the above situations. Rather, it provides encouragement and inspiration. A line quoted from the film says it all – “Life is not PG.”

This is now the favorite film of my pre-teens. That is how much they’ve connected with it.

If I could, I would gift this to anyone and everyone who has family currently serving in the military. They deserve the encouragement and inspiration that this film provides.

A beautiful heart warming story of the price of our peace and the affects of military service on families throughout this country. This movie touched my heart and made me understand the gift of our wonderful freedom in the USA. I am proud to be an American where at least I know I am free, and this has come at huge sacrifices by our brave soldiers who give of themselves throughout time. This story captures a beautiful spirit, which will make you cheer for this young man playing Henry Matthew does a wonderful job acting and singing. Truly, a delightful movie !
