This is a must have for a true Don Rosa. This contains the stories that didn't make it into "The Life and Times of Scrooge Mcduck." Not that they weren't good enough, these were simply drawn later. This book contains some excellent stories such as "The Cowboy Captain of the Cutty Sark", "Of Ducks, Dimes and Destinies", "The Dream of a Lifetime" and others, these are simply my favourites. Hopefully Don Rosa will make more stories about Scrooge's younger life.

In this final volume of Boom! Studios deluxe hardback series of Don Rosa's expansion of the Scrooge McDuck universe we are treated to a number of "B" stories (inbetweeners) across many stages in Scrooge's life, framed by bookends in his money bin in which he tells tales of adventures to his nephews (and a disbelieving Donald).

As before, there is more drama in story of Scrooge McDuck than in a year's worth of superhero brooding. These are complex characters and layered, believable stories of determination, regret, and redemption. There are still a number of laugh-out-loud moments too, but they don't detract from the overall weight of the drama. As a bonus we also get a clever Total Recall-ish story at the end, proving that Rosa can be innovative and funny even when working with apparent "filler" material.

Along with the first two volumes, this is simply a must-have.

5.0 out of 5 stars Actually quite good... 2 Jun. 2007
By isala - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Here Rosa presents stories hat did not fit into the original Scrooge Life and Times storyline. The stories here focus on the Yukon and Scrooges troubled relationship with Glittering Goldie. Again, Rosa departs from Barks and creates realistic three-dimensional characters, wtih real feelings and motivations. Some of these stories I cannot believe why they were not included in the original collection! Here, even Donald Duck gets an opportunity to show his (well-hidden) compassion and Scrooge finally finds redemption with Goldie. Magica de Spell is caught in a trap worthy of Barks himself.

Rosa prides himsalf with his historical accuracy, but I did find an error - Isaac Parker was the Hanging Judge, not Roy Bean.

5.0 out of 5 stars a Perfect Companion 10 Nov. 2006
By bazza - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
This book provides stories of Scrooge's life adventures which were not included in the original "Life and Times" book. If you think the stories in the original book were already good, in this one they just got better! Wait till you read "the Prisoner of White Agony Creek" chapter. In addition, I was truly amazed by the chapter "the Cowboy Captain of Cutty Sark". The historical facts and names about the island that Scrooge visited were correctly written even though in my opinion, they would give problems to most native english speakers. (I was born on that island, and I have lived there for more than half of my life). This book contains some of the best of Don Rosa's work. A Masterpiece.

5.0 out of 5 stars A suitable companion 28 Jun. 2007
By Mou - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
This trade paperback collects the pre-, post-, and in-between chapters of gifted storyteller Don Rosa's The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck, and it's excellent fun. Essentially Rosa uses every bit of Carl Barks-created Scrooge obscura to create a gripping adventure that is both entertaining and nuanced. All-ages material at its finest.

3.0 out of 5 stars Unimpressed With the Quality of Printing 14 Sept. 2006
By Scroogey - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
The stories are great, but unfortunately the printing registration is often off, the colors tend to be dull and downright muddy-looking. The artwork lacks the vibrant and crisp quality of the first edition comics. And something about the paper quality appears inferior. Does not do the stories justice. Overall, rather unimpressed and disappointed with Gemstone on this one.

Great book---is awsome how all the stories are in the same book--but the binding on the book does not stay intact very long
