5.0 out of 5 stars Faith is taking the first step even when you can't see the whole staircase says Martin L. King Jr. 31 May 2014

This is a very good study on faith. If you are a person whose faith is shaky, it will really help you shore up your trust in God. If you have a strong faith, it is a good refresher course. I enjoyed reading all the scriptures that were given. There were some good short stories to read about faith.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book can completely change the path of your life 18 Mar. 2014
By HolliPsalms91 - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
I want to start out by saying I am very, very cautious about what I read. I only read nonfiction Christian books, but moreso, I only read those which are strictly and absolutely, firmly, grounded in the Bible. Meaning the author doesn’t add to, or take away, from God’s eternal word. Which many do. After reading this book, I am adoring every page, and totally impressed.

First off, Shelley gives ample Bible references throughout, nearly every page, often many per page, you’ll find total scriptures and passages from the Bible. I love how she doesn’t read into the Bible or give her own interpretation with only a verse or two to back up what she’s saying. These days so many can easily make those who are not that knowledgeable about the Bible stray away from the truth. But this book proves it definitely is biblical, and leaves you confident and reassured that what you’re reading is the truth.

The next thing I love, is it has not only the stories from the Bible as examples, but modern stories as well. For years I wondered, how can you take what was written thousands of years ago and apply it to your life today? Shelley did a beautiful job doing exactly that. Each chapter she first gives the Biblical story, then a modern story, and pairs them together. And it really helps you apply that Biblical teaching to your own life.

Also the prayers, I love the prayers. Sometimes I am just not sure exactly what to pray, or fear I might leave something out. There are prayers at the end of each chapter where you can pray yourself, that are so insightful, personal, and spoken right from the heart. Each prayer I prayed just made the entire day’s chapter blossom, and come to life.

All in all, it almost feels like Shelley is holding your hand through the entire book, guiding you, teaching you, identifying with you. For me this is imperative. I’m always, constantly, seeking out how to grow with the Lord, mature, and root myself even deeper in Him. Though Shelley is female, so women can identify with her, she also gives stories and examples about and told from men as well. This book is exactly what I needed, and something that can really change your life, and your walk with the Lord, your spiritual growth and maturity. Definitely a book that you can reread over and over again and get something new out of it every time. You must read this book, for yourself, and get a few for those you love too!

I was provided this book by Body and Soul Publishing in exchange for my review.

5.0 out of 5 stars 21 Days Well Spent! 22 Mar. 2014
By Tall - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
If I say this book is an "easy" read, it is a complement. I have found that fear and doubt can creep into our lives no matter how long we have been a believer in The Lord Jesus. Shelley has a way of writing like a good friend who understands your struggles. Each day has scripture, opportunities to reflect and write in your own journal, should you choose to do so. Along with the biblical references and well known stories, there is a timely example of faith from today. Struggles that these stories deal with are very familiar to many of us. Having been through many "crisis of faith" episodes over my lifetime and as recently as 5 months ago...God used this time to confirm and affirm my heart and feelings. How wonderful to know others have struggled as well...and gotten to the other side. While God doesn't always deal with situations as I feel He should(thankfully), this book goes on the journey with you and deals with reality. It is a great 21days and I highly recommend it for those struggling, or for those who just need a well written, short study. I believe this book comes from her heart..and the heart of God.
I was forwarded an advanced copy of this book and have been delighted to read it and review it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Authentic Christianity 7 April 2014
By Linda Whitehead Humbert - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
I have read and review many of Shelley Hitz's books, but I have enjoyed "A Life of Faith: 21 Days to Overcoming Fear and Doubt" the most.
oo often, Christians hide behind the veneer of "it's all good" and "too blessed to be depressed". While it is true that as God's children we are very blessed - in spite of our problems - glossing over them is not leading an authentic life. Why should others be drawn to Christ if we aren't truthful as His representatives?

In this book, Shelley speaks from her own experiences and has included other's trials as well. I was happily surprised that Cliff Ball, another of my favorite authors, was included.

She leads us step by step through prayers and Bible verses to overcome our doubts and fears, while strengthening our walk with the Savior. None of this is "magical" - we still have trials and testings, but she leads us to faith to not only endure our circumstances, but to overcome our fears as well. I strongly recommend this book. Although I received it as an ARC, this in no way has influenced my review.
