I've just finished the second book in this series, and I honestly can't comprehend properly why I even bothered finishing it. Anna has sex/raped with virtually every male character. Absolutely sickening torture scenes with graphic detail from boobs being chopped to babies being raped in graphic detail. A very weak willed main character was the nail in the coffin for me. Perhaps it was the false hope that, somehow, Anna would grow a backbone and some courage and fight her way from the darkness and commit great acts of retribution. Now, don't get me wrong I'm not an amateur when it comes to darker erotica, but this one I could barely stomach. I want to prevent customers from making the same mistake I did.
I scoured the web for my next erotica purchase, saw the number of great number of reviews and thought to myself, why not? Hindsight is certainly a bitch. I'm frustrated by the same cycle that occurs in this story. Anna get's severely abused by Devin (when I mean abused I mean ABUSED. Anna has a very rapid healing rate so everything pretty much goes.) She forgives him, makes an excuse than laps up any sign of affection from him. The sex scenes are supposed to be pleasurable leave a very bland taste. I gave her benefit of the doubt for a while considering the sickening things she has been put through, but the constant repetition just left me frustrated and seriously annoyed. She doesn't fight. She doesn't question Devin. She's absolutely infuriating after a certain point.
I'm aware that my review doesn't exactly conform with the others, but I will not be continuing any more in the series and in all honesty quit while your ahead in this book .Persevering to the second book will make you feel even more disgusted.
However, having said all that, love or hate the premise, this is probably the best written book I have ever read; in any genre!!
I don't give spoilers as I hate it when others do, no-one wants to know the story before they buy, unless you're a ' back page first reader ', I simply want to give my opinion of the story, not tell it !!
The author has an amazing way with words, there are very few errors within all four books that I have read so far. All characters are well fleshed out and you feel involved with them all, whether primary or secondary characters, all are well described and real within the story.
As warned in the authors foreword, it is dark, gets darker and darker as the story progresses.
If this were a real news report I could not have read it as the violence and evil are just so much, but, because you know it is just a story from someone's imagination it is spellbinding, erotic and absolutely 'un-put-down-able' ! In other words these books are an ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECE !!
I found myself not wanting to leave the story at all and once I finished a volume I was thinking about Anna the entire time, wanting to get on to the next one! Absolutely mesmerizing!!
I can hardly wait for the fifth and final volume to be published and I am on tenterhooks waiting to see how Anna and Alex's story will end but will also miss them once their story is told and the HEA arrives.
Thank you, thank you, thank you, Marissa Honeycutt for an amazing set of books and story!
The main character Anna is forced into a life of being a sex slave by the people she trusts and who should be looking out for her.
It is harrowing and violent. I found it so heartbreaking and I wanted so much for Anna to get revenge on all the men who abused her.
Storytelling at its best. Dark and disturbing.
Really upsetting. It deals with abuse and rape.
The main character Anna is a bit dim, to the point of wanting to slap some sense into her at certain points, but the explanation of what she has been through suffices I suppose. The storyline is well written, the bad guy is really bad, well they are all bad guys really, so that you want the good guy to step in and save Anna enough to keep reading.
Not sure if I have the stomach to go for book 2, knowing that it does get even darker, but I have a feeling it will naw at me until I can stand the not knowing of what happens next no more...

Seriously dark and messed up. Not for the faint hearted that's for sure. Proceed with caution. This book is not for everyone.Published 2 months ago by Zetti
