MIS-TEEQ - LICKIN' ON BOTH SIDES CD 14 TRACKS (61094)

Amazon.co.uk

Sassier than a drawer full of naughty underwear, UK-garage divas Mis-Teeq surely rate as the rudest girls on the block thanks to their debut Lickin' on Both Sides. Having ripped up the charts with their first three singles, "Why", "One Night Stand" and the superlative "All I Want", this streetwise female trio now unveil the fuller picture--a tense, aerobic album that positively bursts with youthful energy. It's not all pitched-up vocals with "bling bling" attitude, though. Successfully fusing the digital click of garage with harmonious R&B, Norwegian producers Stargate have crafted a solid showcase for the group's talents: sweet soul vocals and the speed-ragga talents of MC and central figure Alesha. It would be easy to tag these girls as Britain's answer to Destiny's Child, and that's not so wide of the mark. The stop-start clout of "Stamp Reject" echoes the feistiness of "Independent Woman", and "Better Better" is a dead ringer for "Survivor". However, poppy outings such as the funky "Roll On" do show diversity beyond such comparisons, although the mawkish vibe of "These Days" sounds more like the Spice Girls than it really ought to. --Paul Tierney

Since their first single Mis-teeq have been what i believe to be the best UK Garage band around at the moment. Their smooth lyrics on this album are amazing and so are the duets with So Solid Crew. Aleshas MC'ing has to be the best of all the females around and Sabrinas voice leaves us thinking of Destinys CHild Beyonce, this album is bound to go straight to the top of the charts due to its infectious lyrics and great beats. A must buy.

Wicked album -- mostly fast moving R&B/UK garage, with a few light, fresh tunes. Personally I dislike 'They'll Never Know' as a dragging, tuneless, slightly discordant number, and 'Nasty' has a rather jarring, off key chorus which puts me off it. Roll On and These Days provide a softer, brighter edge to the album, while 'Why' and 'All I Want' are great R&B/pop tunes. 'B With Me' is a fantastic fast tune, and Stamp Reject is a real garage tune, ice cold and very idiosyncratic. The two mixes of 'One Night Stand' are both brilliant dance floor tracks, although I personally prefer the faster Sunship edit as the livelier of the two. 'Secrets of the Night' is fun but not a good song, and 'You're Gonna Stay' is nothing special, with a slightly annoying tune. On the whole, however, the album is a real stunner, funky, sassy and smooth all at the same time.

I first heard of Mis-Teeq during the summer when I was just checking out the UK charts of the week and at the time, All I Want was their single. Just out of curiosity, I listened to it. I thought it was pretty cool, but nothing outstanding. It wasn't until I heard One Night Stand that I decided I was gonna hear more of them.
Mis-Teeq are, in terms of image, Destiny's Child's british cousins. In terms of music, they are altogether different. With an album titled "Lickin' On Both Sides," it was apparent to me that these girls have style and attitude. The album was powerful, mixing great R&B with UK garage. One Night Stand is a really cool song, although I like the Stargate version better than the Sunship. B With Me is, eh, nothing special. That Type Of Girl is a song I really like, it reminds me of Craig David's Fill Me In. They'll Never Know is AWESOME- the MCing on it is incredible with So Solid Crew. All I Want is a really cool song as well. Why is okay. I wasn't impressed with These Days. I was more into the American styled Roll On and Nasty. Stamp Reject was a pretty decent track as well.

The singles from this album are really good and Stamp Reject is cool too. The Mis-teeq MC'ing is superb, this record does not need Asher D and Harvey. But Mis-teeq don't have the quality production of Artful Dodger or MJ Cole. The 1st eight songs sound great but then it all goes a bit Britney and Supersister!

To sum up what I really like about this album is that it has created a definitive UK R&B sound that no one except for maybe Craig David has done before. I'm Jamaican, and having grown up hearing american R&B, I always think that uk r&b sounds like some half produced wannabe garbage obviously trying to "break america", Mis-teeq diverts from that practice.
The mis-teeq girls are great, and Alesha's Mcing is fantastic and gives the album the garage sound that allows the album to sound different and not fall into r&b cliche mode. To tell the truth she totally wipes the floor with those So Solid guys on "They'll Never Know". The production on the album is tight, no fillers, and each track sounds different. A definite party album in the same way that say TWOTW was for Destiny's Child. However the comparison must end there.
The best track is probably "All I Want", but I also love "Nasty" which reminds me to an extent of how En Vogue would joke on their albums. "You're Gonna Stay" is great and "Roll On" will definitely get you dancing. "They'll Never Know" is an obvious single, but the title may confuse some with So Solid's recent single "They don't know".
All in all, i think this album will do really well, and these women have a great future and are hear to stay.

I've been waiting a long time to buy this album and now that I have, I'm not dissapointed. My favourites tracks would have to be That Type Of Girl, Nasty, These Days & You're Gonna Stay. The fact that these girls can pull off a guitar based track as well as a range of Garage and R'n'B tracks is brilliant! And, unlike others, none of their tracks sound like copies of each other... with the exception of the Rishi Rich mixes of Roll On & This Is How We Do It - this is obviously cos they roll into each other in the brilliant video! What more can I say other than it's a sure hit! If you're a Mis-teeq fan u won't b disappointed!
