Great little book for anyone with an interest in the area. I bought this a as a gift for a relative who grew up in the area and she found this little volume to be interesting. Contains a good selection of photos with information on the various places. Makes a great little gift, particularly for those partial to nostalgia.

The twin hamlets of Leyton and Leytonstone in far East London are at best ignored and at worst roundly slated. I lived there when I first moved to London and, frankly, couldn't wait to get out. Alan Simpson's superb pictorial history has given me a chance to get reacquainted. Although a slim volume, it is throrough, uncovering myriad interesting facts about the development of the area, and illustrated throughout by library snapshots of 'then', brought up to date with the help of Simpson's own 'now' photographs. A riveting glimpse into a hidden corner of London's past. Sorry I left you, Leytonstone!

Very interesting book as I spent time there with relations as a Child. I bought it for my Cousin Frank in Perth Australia, as he was from Leyton and he and his Aussie Friends all think it's great. I bought another for my cousin in Epping, who also used to live in Leyton and they loved it too. So very pleased I bought them.
