Did not remember the story so it was a pleasure to start as new to the series. Glad I did. It's an excellent story with some good characters. The idea was cleverly thought through and kept my interest right through.
The heroine Lexia is a strange character and the story takes her through stages as she learns she is not who, or even, what she thought she was. The author carefully gives only snippets of clues and it's only at the end of the book that most of the truth is revealed.
As is often the case in current fantasy there is the BFF and a love interest which builds as the story progresses. Once they become lovers the sex scenes become frequent and told in some detail. I have to admit I tend to gloss over these as they often add little or nothing to the main storyline. In this case I have to accept they did have a necessary part to play to give credibility to the two main characters.
The appearance of Lexia's mother at the end gives a clear indication as to the likely storyline in the next book which is next on my list to read.
I appreciate the book was published a while ago but if anyone is reading this review I can honestly say it is worth the read.
The great thing here, is the story starts at the first page, and i love that.
So our main character is (of course) Lexia. Your average school girl, best friend, lives with her dad, crushes on boys and going to parties....when with a click of her fingers it all changes one night when vampires (to Lexia - WTF!?? Theyre real!??) jump her and even more shocking to her - she defeats them....
Scared and shocked she races home
but thats just the beginning.....her eyes are changing....she has more strength...something doesnt feel like it should...
and a panther! A great big freakin panther is stalking her, and as she starts to speak to it, convinced it can understand her, but it keeps attacking her and injuring her.
Then theres this really hot guy that comes into her work, who also pops up everywhere.
what is going on!!
This is just the start....suddenly her life is turned upside down when a group of people storm into her house, and kill her dad, making out that SHE killed him. She goes on the run, still being chased by all these things that shouldnt exist...
Well written. A great lead in Lexia, a story with meaning and a history, good explanations and well thought out. Wouldnt recommend to below 18+ - a few sex scenes that are described well but maybe not for the younger reader!
This was a great book, and even though it didnt take a lot of concentration, it was a good book to sit back and get lost into. Left wide open at the end (which made me groan in frustration! Not many do that!), for the next one to come and i will be picking it up!

I loved this book! The story line, the characters. Lexia the main character, the changes in her life, and Then there's Lincoln who she just can't forget ...and to find what I mean you’re just going have to read the book! I don't want to give any spoilers! And I can't wait for the next book from Rachel to come out!
But buy it you won't be disappointed
Lexia lives with her father and is at the tail end of her education, she is a normal girl enjoying shopping, friends and parties. Until she is cornered by some vampires then everything changes - she kills them and she is unsure how. Her life from here forward is never the same, she is different, her eyes keep changing, she is being stalked by a panther, then there's Lincoln the hot guy that's always hanging around ! Lexia's life is completely turned upside down and then she has to run and hide ...
Wow oh wow! Having read Rachel Raithby's Winter Wolf I was really looking forward to reading this series, wasn't sure if it could be as good, but it certainly is ! I absolutely loved this book and fell completely in love with Lexia and Lincoln, they have a great bond and chemistry.
I really didn't want this book to end I had a hard job putting it down - I was gripped from the very beginning, sucked in and transported right into Lexia's crazy world. This book is quite different from how I expected it to be and I really cant wait to start the next book in the series. A great gripping book, one of my top reads !
