Canon 7D files stored on 32GB UDMA7 Compact Flash

My old card reader could not see the files stored on my 'Komputer Bay' 32GB UDMA7 CF card when using my laptop, When using my tablet I could sometimes see the files but they looked to be corrupted. I supsected that my Canon 7D hadn't been able to format the card as my 8GB CF card could be read (even though they looked fime on the camera LCD)

To cut a long story short this card reader has no problems. in reading the UDMA7 CF card JPEGs. Yay! Even though I don't have a USB3 laptop (only USB2) there are no issues now. Card is ok. Camera is ok. The reader was the problem but this one is great!

It also reads 32GB SDHC cards too.

It arrived within days as well so well worth the outlay.

Fast downloading was my priority & that's what this delivers. It's also very compact (and good looking, though that doesn't seem to me much of a priority issue). I've only used it with CF cards, and agree with other reviewers that it's a minor fiddle making sure the card slides correctly into the slot, but this is no real problem if you take care. I was also looking for a reader using Firewire connector (potentially faster, and would leave USB slot free) but these don't seem to be available from well-reputed manufacturers any longer: the Sandisk one has disappeared (even Sandisk's site seems cagey about this), which was highly recommended to me by an experienced proi-photographer.

I have owned this for a while, but today one of the latch buttons broke off and on detailed investigation the other soon followed. It has worked well until this point - I only use the CF capability so I cannot comment on SD operation. It has seen only moderate usage since I use a mix of digital cameras and medias - mostly SDHC which slot straight into the MBP. If you buy this do not expect to be handing it down as a heirloom. Interestingly the newer USB 3.0 version is just over half the price - I will be buying another Lexar card reader after all.

I wanted a card reader that was fast and this device certainly does the job. I have a Canon 50D, which has large raw files and my previous card reader took nearly an hour to download 4GB worth of photos. I can now download from my Sandisk CF Extreme lll card about 200 raw files in about 2- 3 minutes. The Lexar card reader is well made with a pop up section, where you can insert your compact flash or SD card. This means no dust can get into the slots. It is small and easy to carry and good for travel abroad. It may be a little bit pricey, but I consider it worth every penny.

Quality product and very reliable. It makes handling two sorts of cards a breeze and with UDMA cards has a fast read speed. Although I have had no problems with it the user should be careful to ensure the pins inside align correctly to the CF cards on insertion to avoid any damage. Only very small niggle - it would have been nice if it came with a small plastic box. The glossy black lid is likely to get scratched or damaged when carrying it around in the camera bag. It is still a recommended product anyway.

Maximise USB2 transfer from cards

Worth paying a bit more for this as it pretty much is one of the fastest around for utilizing USB2 throughput. I can pull about 30MB/s on this from fast CF/SD cards which is about all you can ask from real world USB2 transfer speeds. Card readers are not all created equal and cheaper ones have more losses through the internal PCBs on the hardware. This seems solid and nicely made being able to flip it up in use or knock it down when in storage.

This is one of a number of methods in which you can download images onto your computer. It is compact, well designed with the slot readers hidden behind a pop up lid. The reader accepts all forms of CompactFlash and SD cards, as well as UDMA cards. It downloads JPEG and RAW files with incredible speed (images obtained via a Canon EOS 40D), and is compatible with both PC and Mac. This product is highly recommended and it does what it says on the can - downloads images at high speed!!

Although only USB 2, it is one of the faster ones of this type and being able to pop it close when not in use is very handy at stopping debris accumulating in the slots. This is especially critical for the CF card slot, as obstructed pins could get damaged, break off in a card, which can lead to the destruction of a camera's CF slot in extreme cases and very pricy repair (according to one D700 owner).
