That said, there's nothing quite like trying on a pair of jeans that look and feel perfect just for you from the word go. That is exactly the feeling I've had this afternoon with a stunningly beautiful pair of '751' jeans that look like none I've ever bought previously. The colour fade on them is already so lovely that I'll be reluctant to wash them at warmer than 30 degrees. They also feel soft, which is very different to the black starchy pair of 501s I bought last year. The stitching on them is first class and which ever part of eastern Europe or Asia is responsible should be given an award for sewing excellence.
I've been cycling a good deal for the past year and my waist size has diminished markedly, and to be honest I'd rather not have needed to invest in yet another pair of trousers of any description, but felt I deserved something that fitted better. These have proved perfect and won't require nearly as much tightening of the belt.
Well done to Amazon for providing a quality product from a genuinely iconic brand at a bargain price. I'm very happy with my purchase, as you can probably tell.
I will keep the review simple as Levi's are Levi's after all, so quality can be taken as read and the price point here is good for 'new' - you can pay £80 in the shops for genuine red tabs. The point I want to make and which should be helpful to buyers concerns style and fit. Prior to this purchase I had bought three pairs of Levis on eBay used (no shame in that - I like them washed out). None of them felt right though and all the leg widths were different. Two of them were very baggy in the front and thighs despite being a 32". This is very annoying to someone who remembers the 70's when you just went into a shop, bought a pair and they 'fit'. The trouble is Levi's now have approximately 40+ different styles indicated by numbers - so many in fact that they cannot seem to agree themselves on the definitive list (they de-list and add them seemingly at random - try doing a Google search - its a fun way to fill an hour of your life). Different countries can have different ranges and bizarrely a different interpretation of what 32" represents on a waist too.
I was very pleased to discover these 751's which are close to the 'classic', praise Jesus, UK Levis I remember - the correct blue (not indigo, sapphire, aqua... I made that last one up but you get the point), a close fit on the seat, just enough room in the crotch and thighs, running to a comfortable boot fit at the ankle (not flaired or drainpipe, but in the middle). They are a genuine 32" waist, have a traditional zip fly, the Levi's waist patch and, last but not least, a genuine RED tab on the pocket. I am a very happy bunny now.Read more ›
Levi 751 used to be the nearest style to my original 60s pair but these latest jeans in "indigoed local" finish are a far cry from those originals. The material is about half the thickness, quite good for summer actually but who knows how long they'll last for and how they will wear - will they fade? The cut, styling and finish are all good, as is the fit but the stretchy material just feels a bit synthetic and cheap. Also there are are a few minor details that aren't quite right - the stitching on the back pockets is in two different colours, yellow and orange (why?) with the reinforcement stitching at the top of the pocket being in blue rather than the usual yellow.
I just wish I wasn't such a traditionalist when it comes to jeans - there were some real bargains around in the summer sales but for me you can't beat the understated classic Levi"s styling.
