This is an enjoyable read. Anyone who follows politics and wants further insight into our lords and masters should buy it. QL is indefatigable and we need people like him to prick pomposity, which he does admirably. I am surprised that we have not found him beaten up in some dark alley! This is a book that you can pick up, read a chapter and return to in a fortnight - or year - without losing the sense. A worthy four stars

Quentin Letts is such a witty, clever writer. This is a great bedside book to dip into, a series of descriptions of the ego-maniacs, time-servers and half-wits who comprise our elected representatives.

I received this book for Christmas from my brother after we'd both ended up laughing at Letts' acting performance on This Week during a send-up of Downtown Abbey.

I suspect anybody buying it will know what they're letting (sorry, that's the last of these puns) themselves in for. If you don't, it's a collection of parliamentary sketches, written by the author, dating from May 2000 to March 2011.

Lett's is unashamedly right-wing and these pieces should, therefore, be seen through that prism. However, that shouldn't prevent lefties from enjoying them, because whether or not you agree with his views (and for the record, on most subjects, I don't), Letts is an amusing and engaging writer. Aspiring authors, in particular, could learn a trick or two from his creative use of similes and metaphors - each sketch is rife with them and they never fail to raise a smile. Additionally, whilst his opinions are exactly what you'd expect from a Little Englander writing for the Daily Mail, I found that I appreciated his cynicism towards our political landscape. It's a shame there aren't a few more journalists like him that are willing to question authority.

So, what's not to like? Well, Letts can come off as chauvinist, often referring in his articles to the hair, dress and 'pins' of his various female subjects (in fairness he does do this to the male ones too, but not quite in as pervier a manner...) and you may, also, sometimes find his political views a little outdated. For some reason I can't hate him for that though - I get the feeling he was just brought up in a world of privilege and that, try as he might, he'll always view the country through a pair of brandy coloured spectacles.

Hilarious, especially if you have lived through the events. Easy enough to read with a few pages each morning at breakfast and be set up for the day.
Amazon service excellent. Initially price seemed higher than with competitor but when their outrageous p&p was added the Amazon copy was cheaper; it was delivered with amazing speed that could not have been bettered.

Another superb book from Quentin Letts: A very perceptive and funny man! His books are always worth buying, the title is so very apt - Inside the parliament of fools - priceless! A book I will read over and over again, worth every penny!
