In conjunction with other texts, e.g. the Compendium, a commentary on his work, a biography or one of Suchet's biographical novels, it is very helpful to read his own words to know what he was concerned with at a specific time or his views on a particular subject. His words are one of the major sources for biographers and other researchers and this well organised and edited book allows direct access to that material.
Well worth the investment for general or more academic purposes.
