Read it in one sitting. Couldn't put it down. The characters were compelling and Ms Berry made me care about their fate!

3.0 out of 5 stars A bit dated, but surprisingly clever dialogue 18 Jun. 2013
By Leapin' Literary Lurkers - Published on
Format: Hardcover
No need to pretend this is great literature, but I found myself liking the book much more than I expected when I borrowed it from a club library.

Since it was set in the mid 1980's, the text was rife with duplicating machines, typewriters, transistor radios, taking dictation, etc.

It was a snappy throwback with wry assessments, amusing dialogue, believable humor and spot-on descriptions of the lawyers and staff that peopled the book.

Only saw two typos: facial ticks for tics and leaving off the "'s" on America's Cup. No biggies.

The author doesn't seem to take herself too seriously nor seem to be "trying too hard" to engage the reader. I enjoyed the story---although the culprit was pretty obvious; the motive wasn't.

Overall, a 3.5 rating
